Cupertino, California — July 30, 2020 — Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2020 third quarter ended June 27, 2020. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $59.7 billion, an increase of 11 percent from the year-ago quarter, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.58, up 18 percent. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

“Apple’s record June quarter was driven by double-digit growth in both Products and Services and growth in each of our geographic segments,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “In uncertain times, this performance is a testament to the important role our products play in our customers’ lives and to Apple’s relentless innovation. This is a challenging moment for our communities, and, from Apple’s new $100 million Racial Equity and Justice Initiative to a new commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030, we’re living the principle that what we make and do should create opportunity and leave the world better than we found it.”

“Our June quarter performance was strong evidence of Apple’s ability to innovate and execute during challenging times,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. “The record business results drove our active installed base of devices to an all-time high in all of our geographic segments and all major product categories. We grew EPS by 18 percent and generated operating cash flow of $16.3 billion during the quarter, a June quarter record for both metrics.”

Apple’s Board of Directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.82 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on August 13, 2020 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on August 10, 2020.

The Board of Directors has also approved a four-for-one stock split to make the stock more accessible to a broader base of investors. Each Apple shareholder of record at the close of business on August 24, 2020, will receive three additional shares for every share held on the record date, and trading will begin on a split-adjusted basis on August 31, 2020.

Apple will provide live streaming of its Q3 2020 financial results conference call beginning at 2:00 p.m. PT on July 30, 2020, at apple.com/investor/earnings-call/. This webcast will also be available for replay for approximately two weeks thereafter.

WITHINGS RAISES $60 MILLION TO BECOME THE DATA-ENABLED BRIDGE BETWEEN PATIENTS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS NEWS https://macsources.com/withings-raises-60-million-to-become-the-data-enabled-bridge-between-patients-and-healthcare-professionals-news/ https://macsources.com/withings-raises-60-million-to-become-the-data-enabled-bridge-between-patients-and-healthcare-professionals-news/#respond Tue, 28 Jul 2020 17:24:15 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=82502&preview=true&preview_id=82502 Withings plans to grow its business-to-business division and to develop the next generation of tracking devices to monitor and predict health conditions

Withings, early pioneers of the connected health revolution, has announced a $60 million Series B funding round co-led by healthcare investment specialists Gilde Healthcare, and long-term Withings partners and investors, Idinvest Partners and Bpifrance, through their Large Venture funds, as well as BNP Paribas Développement, ODDO BHF Private Equity, and Adelie Capital. Having led a paradigm shift in the way consumers and physicians interact by enabling accurate and regular patient-generated data collection, Withings will capitalize on this investment to solidify its position as a trusted intermediary between patients and healthcare professionals. It will continue to invest in products and data services that help deliver more personalized, continuous and preventive medicine.

The company will invest funds to globally scale its dedicated business-to-business division Withings MED PRO and accelerate the development of the next generation of consumer health devices that bring medical grade and predictive capabilities into the home. It also plans to add 100 new positions in the United States and France by the end of the year to strengthen its teams working on research and development, sales, and marketing.

A DECADE OF DATA COLLECTION

In 2008, a small group of engineers created Withings, launching the world’s first connected scale in 2009. The team quickly discovered that being able to regularly access information gave users a new power: to manage their weight and take control of their health daily.

Today, Withings has built the largest ecosystem of connected, non-invasive health devices by reinventing everyday objects and endowing them with new medical powers: a scale that measures arterial stiffness, an analog watch that detects cardiac arrhythmias, a blood pressure monitor that detects valvular heart diseases, and an under-mattress sleep tracker that detects sleep apnea. With over 45 technical patents, the Withings portfolio captures more than 20 vital health parameters including blood pressure, ECG, weight, pulse wave velocity, heart rate, activity levels, sleep apnea, and sleep patterns.

TRANSFORMING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PATIENTS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

With people spending most of their time outside of the doctor’s office, at-home health monitors not only give consumers more control over their health, but also have extraordinary potential for doctors, hospitals, and researchers. Having remote and regular access to precise medical-grade data allows professionals to offer more personalized, intelligent, and responsive care.

In 2019, Withings launched MED PRO, a dedicated business-to-business division that allows medical professionals, institutions, payers, disease management programs, coaching platforms, and researchers to leverage Withings devices and data analytics within their own ecosystems. With today’s funding and against the current health emergency backdrop, Withings is actively growing this division. It offers remote patient and telemedicine services and solutions for dedicated health programs that manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart health, sleep, and weight management.

MED PRO also aids academic and pharma research, having been involved in over 100 clinical and academic studies by leading organizations such as Harvard University, Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou, the American Medical Group Association, and Scripps Health. In addition, it is currently involved in a research initiative with the Department of Cardiology at the university hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, which is integrating the soon to be launched Withings ScanWatch into a COVID-19 patient monitoring project. ScanWatch is capable of tracking the blood oxygen saturation and the heart rhythm by wrist measurements.

Withings Timeline

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM WITH A REINFORCED MEDICAL EXPERTISE

From a small group of engineers, the Withings team has grown in size and scope to include people with diverse and non-conventional electronics backgrounds such as cardiologists, psychologists, a sleep doctor, and even a philosopher.

As Withings deepens its ongoing healthcare strategy, it will be guided by its newly appointed global Medical Advisory Board, comprised of eminent medical, research, and scientific leaders: Dr. John Halamka, President of the Mayo Clinic Platform, Dr. Stéphane Laurent, former Head of Clinical Pharmacology in Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou in Paris, and Craig Lipset, former head of Clinical Innovation at Pfizer.

With this new investment and the medical support of the new advisory board, Withings aims to invent a new generation of consumer health devices that will track new biomarkers and bring medical grade, predictive capabilities into the home.

Eric Carreel, President and co-founder of Withings: “I strongly believe in technology’s ability to transform society’s health by allowing anyone to regularly monitor their vitals from home and involve health professionals in this process. Today, we are in an exciting time where medicine is becoming personalized, continuous, and based on data analysis, and I am proud Withings is at the heart of this revolution. With funding from like-minded partners, we can scale our efforts globally and continue to invest in new technologies and AI tools that can detect and predict medical conditions.”

Mathieu Letombe, CEO of Withings: “This is an important milestone for Withings. We have combined technology and medical science during the past ten years to create an unrivaled portfolio of devices that continually and accurately measure a vast array of health parameters. With the healthcare industry increasingly embracing this technology and data, it has enthusiastically turned to Withings as a natural partner. Our devices enjoy some of the highest retention levels, cover more health vitals and work with more operating platforms than any other player in the business. The new influx of funding and medical expertise will help us bring even more exciting solutions to the market, making the possibilities for the next ten years boundless.”

Edwin de Graaf, Managing Partner at Gilde Healthcare: With telemedicine on the rise, and the wider health industry’s growing need to collect and analyze accurate, reliable patient data, Withings is in a unique position to thrive and is an attractive investment for us. We look forward to working with the Withings team as they continue to redefine how patients and physicians interact.

Benoist Grossmann, Managing Partner at Idinvest Partners: “Withings has demonstrated its leadership in creating elegantly designed connected health devices that millions of consumers want and continue to use.

We’ve worked with the company since its infancy and are excited to be part of it as it enters this new era of opportunity.

Withings was advised by tech-focused investment bank Clipperton in the structuration of the transaction.

VIVINT SMART HOME INTEGRATES WITH MYQ SMART GARAGE CONTROL NEWS https://macsources.com/vivint-smart-home-integrates-with-myq-smart-garage-control-news/ https://macsources.com/vivint-smart-home-integrates-with-myq-smart-garage-control-news/#respond Tue, 21 Jul 2020 17:43:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=82312 With the Vivint App, you can now monitor/control/secure your myQ Chamberlain Group Garage door opener.

After marrying the love of my life in 2006, my wife and I moved from our temporary home to our first semi-permanent home.  With a new baby, in a town that we had some familiarity with, and a job that regularly took me away overnight and on the weekends, I wanted a sentry to guard my family when I could not.  Luckily, a good friend of mine introduced me to a relatively new home monitoring company named VIVINT.  Founded in 1999 by Keith Nellesen and Todd Peterson as APX Alarm Security Solutions, the company rebranded itself into Vivint in February of 2011.  Having been with Vivint for nearly a decade now, it feels that my family has grown alongside the company.  From the original Go Control Panel plus fire alarm and door/window sensors, we upgraded to a new Sky Control Panel.  We added door locks, lamp modules, improved smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, added a doorbell camera, outdoor cameras, an indoor Vivint Ping camera, then added Element Thermostats, and the CarGuard monitoring system.  Within the last few weeks, I have upgraded the system yet again to add the new Vivint Smart Hub, Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro, Outdoor Camera Pro, and water/leak sensors.  Please look for reviews of the above system in the coming weeks.

FeatureVivintmyQ

Similar to their technology, Vivint has grown beyond a simple home monitoring program into a Vivint SmartHome experience.  In fact, as of today, July 21, 2020, Vivint Smart Home will integrate with myQ Smart Garage controls, which are present within the Chamberlain Group (CGI) LiftMaster and Chamberlain garage door opener brands.  Vivint customers, with a myQ enabled smart garage door opener, will gain additional Vivint App functionality; you can “control, secure, and monitor your garage, anytime, from anywhere, using a single Vivint Smart Home App.” With outdoor cameras, doorbell cameras, and door/window sensors/locks, Vivint already provides 24/7 monitoring/customer care and allows their users to secure the most common access points to their home.  However, the above setup left a large unsecured access point into many of our homes.  With this new integration, Vivint can secure the last portal of entry into your home.

VIVINTSMARTHOMEFACTS

Imagine being able to protect access to your vehicles/tools, or to be able to set an activity to allow your garage door to open when you arrive home.  Would it help to be alerted if your garage door was left open for a certain period?  What if the door would automatically shut after a certain period of time had lapsed?  Maybe, you want the garage door to automatically open/close at a certain time of day or to be triggered by certain activities?   Have you ever forgotten to close your garage door or felt uncertain if it reopened after you left?  This feeling is not unlike trying to remember if you locked your door or if you unplugged the coffee pot.  With the Vivint App integration, you can gain peace of mind.  You will be able to remotely open/close your garage and will gain the ability to check the status of the door if needed.  Additionally, thanks to COVID-19, contactless grocery/non-grocery shopping/delivery has expanded.  This technology could allow you to open your garage door to allow someone to deliver a package into a secure location.  Perhaps you are out of town, and your neighbor wants to take out your trash or to place your mail indoors, out of the elements.  The Vivint system will now allow you to remotely access your garage door or doors.

VivintGarageDoorIntegration

With the added smart myQ Garage Door features, Vivint continues to improve upon an award-winning system.  You can welcome visitors/family/friends into your home, you can secure access to your vehicles, tools, and toys, and you can gain custom functionality.  For those of you who already have a Chamberlain/LiftMaster system and a Vivint Smart Home setup, you should rejoice in the above news.  If you enjoy the benefits of a modern Vivint system but have an older door lift system, perhaps it is time to invest in an upgrade (myQ or myQ garage door hub).  Lastly, if you have a newer garage door system with myQ technology but do not yet have a Vivint system, it is time to contact www.vivint.com to start your in-home consultation today.

Add the missing piece of the puzzle to your nearly complete Vivint Picture.

Apple allocates more than $400 million toward its $2.5 billion commitment to combat California’s housing crisis https://macsources.com/apple-allocates-more-than-400-million-toward-its-2-5-billion-commitment-to-combat-californias-housing-crisis/ https://macsources.com/apple-allocates-more-than-400-million-toward-its-2-5-billion-commitment-to-combat-californias-housing-crisis/#respond Mon, 13 Jul 2020 05:00:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=82152&preview=true&preview_id=82152 Apple is allocating more than $400 million toward affordable housing projects

Apple is allocating more than $400 million toward affordable housing projects and homeowner assistance programs in California this year, marking a major milestone in the company’s multiyear $2.5 billion commitment to combat the housing crisis in the state. The funding will support thousands of Californians with first-time homebuyer assistance or new affordable housing units.

Projects launching this year include the first affordable housing developments funded in partnership with Housing Trust Silicon Valley, which will create more than 250 new units of affordable housing across the Bay Area, as well as a mortgage and down payment assistance fund and an affordable housing investment support program, both created in conjunction with the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA). Apple is also supporting additional construction of affordable housing units through its partnership with Destination: Home, which supports Silicon Valley’s most vulnerable populations.

“At a time when so many members of our community are facing unprecedented challenges, we believe it’s critical to make sure that their hopes for the future are supported through tangible programs and results,” said Kristina Raspe, Apple’s vice president for Global Real Estate and Facilities. “As cities and states have been forced to pause many of their long-term affordable housing investments amidst the current public health crisis, Apple is proud to continue moving forward with our comprehensive plan to combat the housing crisis in California.”

After soliciting proposals earlier this year, Apple and Housing Trust Silicon Valley are excited to move forward with the first four projects funded through their public-private partnership, supporting affordable housing developments that span the North, East, and South Bay regions. The geographically diverse projects will create more than 250 new units of affordable housing, many of them reserved for veterans, the homeless or formerly homeless, and residents with developmental disabilities.

In partnership with CalHFA, Apple has provided mortgage and down payment assistance to hundreds of first-time home buyers to date, with additional benefits for teachers, veterans, and firefighters. CalHFA’s assistance program supports low- and moderate-income first-time home buyers, and reflects the state’s diversity — historically, over 65 percent of borrowers identify as Hispanic, Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, or American Indian.

Also in conjunction with CalHFA, Apple this month is launching a first-of-its-kind-in-California affordable housing investment support program that will increase the availability of funding to develop and build new, very low- to moderate-income housing at a lower cost. The program is expected to become a critical tool for the state of California to produce additional affordable housing units over the next five years.

Apple’s support for Destination: Home has helped fund the construction of over 1,000 new units of deeply-affordable and supportive housing for the community’s most vulnerable populations across Silicon Valley. This includes a new project in Santa Clara that will create 80 new units, designed for seniors who are currently homeless or at risk of falling into homelessness. And with Apple’s support, Destination: Home has also been able to expand the capacity of the organization’s Homelessness Prevention System to keep 1,500 families annually from losing their homes — an increase of 67 percent from a year ago.

“Apple’s contribution could not have come at a more crucial time, as the COVID-19 pandemic has only made our work to end homelessness that much more urgent,” said Jennifer Loving, Destination: Home’s CEO. “We were able to immediately invest their funding into several new housing developments that will provide a permanent home to vulnerable residents across the region and reinforce our Homelessness Prevention System at a time when we’re seeing an unprecedented number of at-risk families in need.”

In November 2019, Apple committed $2.5 billion to combat the housing crisis in California across a series of initiatives over several years, including:

A first-of-its kind $1 billion affordable housing investment fund with the state of California.
A $1 billion first-time homebuyer mortgage assistance fund, with increased funding opportunities for essential services personnel, school employees, and veterans.
$300 million in Apple-owned land made available for affordable housing.
A $150 million Bay Area housing fund, in public-private partnership with Housing Trust Silicon Valley.
$50 million to support Destination: Home’s efforts to address homelessness in Silicon Valley.

With anticipation at a fever pitch, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is excited to introduce the company’s next generation of full-frame mirrorless cameras – the EOS R5 and EOS R6. These groundbreaking cameras are the result of many years of collecting and listening to feedback from Canon users and are sure to meet the needs and demands of a variety of creators. The EOS R5 is a camera designed for professional applications featuring a new 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and uncropped 8K video recording up to 29.97 fps. The EOS R6 is geared towards advanced amateurs featuring a 20.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and 4K video recording up to 59.94 fps. The addition of the EOS R5 and the EOS R6 cameras within the EOS R series lineup further solidifies Canon’s commitment to providing the equipment needed for users to bring their content to the next level.

Canon is also introducing four RF lenses and two RF lens extenders: The Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, Canon RF600mm F11 IS STM, Canon RF800mm F11 IS STM, and RF85mm F2 MACRO IS STM lenses. All four new lenses were designed to meet the ever-expanding demands of the skilled creatives who capture amazing imagery using EOS R series cameras, including the new EOS R5 and EOS R6. In addition to the lenses, there are two new RF lens extenders, a 1.4x and a 2x model, allowing for users to take their compatible RF lens focal lengths even farther, and a 13-inch professional printer, the imagePROGRAF PRO-300, to bring photos to life through the power of print.

“For all of the Canon research and development team members who worked tirelessly on the production of these new products, today marks the culmination of a long journey. For those people looking for the next great tools to work with to expand their creative possibilities, the door is now wide open,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “The industry has asked for new products that can push their levels of creativity to new heights, and we are confident that the EOS R5 and EOS R6, alongside the new lenses, lens extenders, and the pro printer, will fulfill those needs and more.”

Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6
Both the EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras have the ability to capture the action of a variety of fast-moving subjects with impressive accuracy and speed. When using the mechanical shutter, each can shoot up to 12 fps and up to 20 fps when using the completely silent shutter. Both cameras are the first to be outfitted with Canon’s advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II which utilizes up to approximately100 percent coverage of the AF area and EOS iTR AF X incorporating AF tracking algorithms using deep learning technology and enhanced readout speed of the CMOS sensor and processing speed thanks to the DIGIC X image processor. The 1,053 automatically selected AF Zones are made even more potent by the ability to detect the human eye, face or head as well as the eye, face or body of animals such as dogs, cats and even birds[i]. Adding to the feature set is the 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer, having coordinated control with Optical Image Stabilizer in IS equipped RF lenses. This provides up to 8 stops[ii] of shake correction, a feature that many creators have long asked for from Canon. Both the EOS R5 and R6 cameras come with a new LP-E6NH battery with a higher capacity than the previous model.

As the new flagship model in the EOS R series lineup, the EOS R5 camera has features that pack a punch for a variety of users who create both still and video content. It has a powerful 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and is driven by the speedy DIGIC X image processor, giving wide dynamic range as well as boasting an ISO range of 100-51,200 that is expandable up to 102,400[iii]. In a camera full of eye-popping features, one that really stands out is the ability to record uncropped 8K RAW internal video recording up to 29.97 fps and 8K internal video recording up to 29.97 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit Canon Log (H.265)/4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265). The camera can also record 4K internal video recording up to 119.88 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit Canon Log (H.265)/4:2:2 10-bit HDR PQ (H.265). External recording in 4K is also available up to 59.94 fps. When in DCI modes, the 8K and 4K video recording is uncropped and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is available in all 8K and 4K recording modes. Additional features of the EOS R5 camera include:

  • Dual-card slots: 1x CFexpress[iv] and 1x SD UHS-II[v]

The new lens extenders inherit the same high image quality, precision AF and reliability, such as being drip and dustproof, of EF lens extenders. When used in combination with the newly-released compatible lenses, the capturing range can be dramatically increased, providing consumers with additional use cases for their existing RF lenses.

Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300
Completing the lineup of professional printer options from 13 inches through 60 inches, Canon also unveiled today the new 13-inch Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 Inkjet Printer along with a new Premium Fine Art Rough paper. NEW ORBI AX4200 JOINS FLAGSHIP ORBI AX6000 TO EXPAND PRODUCT LINE NEWS https://macsources.com/new-orbi-ax4200-joins-flagship-orbi-ax6000-to-expand-product-line-news/ https://macsources.com/new-orbi-ax4200-joins-flagship-orbi-ax6000-to-expand-product-line-news/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2020 20:05:08 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=81853&preview=true&preview_id=81853 NETGEAR®, Inc., the leading provider of mesh WiFi systems that power today’s smart homes and small businesses, is introducing the next WiFi 6 member of the Orbi Mesh WiFi family, NETGEAR® Orbi™ WiFi 6 AX4200 Tri-band Mesh Systems (RBK752/753). Joining the flagship Orbi™ WiFi 6 AX6000 Tri-band Mesh System (RBK852), this new Orbi Mesh System, with its attractive price point, is designed to make robust whole-home WiFi 6 mesh accessible to more households around the globe. While accelerating the transition to the latest in WiFi technology, the new Orbi Tri-band Mesh WiFi System is available now as a two-pack, router, and satellite system (RBK752), and a three-pack, router with two satellites (RBK753), from NETGEAR.com and other retailers.

Following on the tremendous success of the award-winning Orbi WiFi 6 AX6000 mesh system (RBK852) and the numerous WiFi 6 clients now available from phone and laptop manufacturers, the Orbi AX4200 WiFi 6 Mesh Systems join NETGEAR’s industry-leading portfolio of WiFi 6 network product offerings. The two new WiFi 6 mesh systems make the ideal upgrade for the customer who wishes to get the benefits of both the WiFi performance and coverage of a tri-band mesh and the capacity to handle multiple devices with WiFi 6 for their home but at a more attractive price point. Tri-band mesh WiFi provides a network of wireless router and satellites with a dedicated data connection from the router to satellite to ensure the best performance and reach through the entire home.  A detailed breakdown on the differentiating features and specifications of the high-performance Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh Systems is provided in the table.

With the latest generation WiFi 6 technology, these powerful mesh WiFi systems are designed to keep all connections strong, in every room, all the time. The upgraded WiFi will provide households with the bandwidth to address the demands of today’s automated smart home even when running multiple 4K/8K UHD streaming and online gaming. In an environment where streaming of ultra-high definition video to multiple screens puts greater demands on home networks, the new Orbi WiFi 6 mesh systems (RBK752/753) provide the same great coverage as the flagship Orbi WiFi 6 mesh (RBK852/853), but are designed for families with slightly fewer devices, enabling the capability to support upwards of 40 devices on a network simultaneously without interruption, whereas the RBK 852/853 is designed for larger families or gadget hounds and can support over 60 devices on the network at one time. From online exercise classes, to online gaming, to live video meetings, to streaming of on-demand online video, all these activities may now take place simultaneously without interruption with an Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh network.

Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh Systems are also designed to deliver on the gigabit internet speeds promised by service providers, with the RBK752/753 supporting internet speeds of up to 1 Gigabit and RBK852/853 supporting up to 2.5 Gigabit speeds for those lucky enough to have it.  The 3 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports on the router and 2 on the satellite allow for the connection of more wired devices, which makes it ideal for home offices or home entertainment systems.

And both WiFi 6 Mesh systems leverage the dedicated WiFi 6 backhaul that NETGEAR pioneered with the original Orbi, which provides a dedicated quad stream 5Ghz channel for data exchange between the router and satellite thus reducing congestion and allowing all devices on the network to run faster.

“In the current environment where home networks are now constrained by every member of the household working from home, distance learning and streaming video or playing online games, this new Orbi WiFi 6 Mesh system is designed to carry the heavy load of this new reality,” said David Henry, senior vice president of Connected Home Products for NETGEAR. “Providing a range of options for consumers and small businesses, NETGEAR boasts the largest portfolio of WiFi 6 routers, range extenders, mesh WiFi systems, and cable gateways in the industry. It is our aim to provide a broad range of advanced WiFi solutions to address the needs of the ever-evolving consumer landscape.”

Simple setup and WiFi management are all made possible by way of the Orbi app. Create a guest network, view the connected devices, and perform speed tests right from the free app for iOS and Android.

EZVIZ Launches C3X: A Dual-Lens Color Night Vision Security Camera NEWS https://macsources.com/ezviz-launches-c3x-a-dual-lens-color-night-vision-security-camera-news/ https://macsources.com/ezviz-launches-c3x-a-dual-lens-color-night-vision-security-camera-news/#respond Mon, 29 Jun 2020 17:34:08 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=81828&preview=true&preview_id=81828 Rather than leveraging spotlights, the AI-powered smart home camera uses unprecedented dual lenses to render color monitoring in dark environments

EZVIZ, a global-leading smart home security brand, today announced the launch of its most advanced and highly anticipated outdoor Wi-Fi camera, the C3X. Thanks to dual-lens camera setup, C3X produces color video in extremely dark environments (lab test result: 0.005 lux condition), without turning on the spotlight. As a result, C3X users see authentic details in nighttime images, such as the color of clothes and cars, which are routinely lost in traditional security cameras. The EZVIZ C3X Dual-Lens Color Night Vision Security Camera is available from Walmart for MSRP $149.99

Utilizing the dual-2 MP camera setup, vivid color imaging is accomplished using two lenses – one lens records the ambient brightness and the other captures color information. The two images are then merged using EZVIZ’s own proprietary algorithm to create an image that is rich in details and realistic color.

Color night vision had previously been achieved by using supplemental spotlights, but thanks to the dual lenses and dual infrared lights to render better color images even in the lowest light conditions, there is now no need for this. The C3X’s colors are more natural, and the image is more evenly-illuminated.

Powered by embedded AI deep learning algorithms, the C3X camera recognizes moving people and vehicles, and distinguish those from animals, foliage, or other insignificant objects. The camera will push real-time notifications to the user’s phone when vehicles and/or persons cross specific lines that the user drew on the application. No subscription fee is required for this functionality.

The C3X also features a built-in siren and strobe light, and can be programmed to use them upon detecting motion-based events. Users can change the siren to a pre-recorded audio track, saying, for example, “you’ve entered private property” as a warning. The camera’s alert accuracy will continually improve since the EZVIZ team will continue to improve the model and make regular firmware updates available through the EZVIZ App.

Via the EZVIZ app, the C3X allows users to draw particular zones on the EZVIZ App to protect specific areas of property. This allows people, cars, or both to be kept out of the zones. Upon detection of objects of interest, the camera will issue a loud siren and flash the strobe light to drive intruders away, whilst delivering a notification via the app in a split second.

As an outdoor Wi-Fi camera with the IP67 weatherproof rating and dual antennas for stable wireless connections, the C3X delivers reliable year-round security and complete peace of mind.

The EZVIZ C3X Dual-Lens Color Night Vision Security Camera is available from Walmart for MSRP $149.99

More C3X information:

  • Full HD 1080p – Consistently reviewed as best image quality in class (EZVIZ Brand)
  • Intelligent Dual-Lens – Proprietary and provides Vivid and Natural Color Night Vision
  • Embedded AI Deep Learning Algorithm – No extra cloud subscription fees required for AI features.
  • Human and Vehicle Shape Detection – Minimizes false alerts
  • H.265 Video Compression – Saves up to 50% storage space required for video recordings
  • Active Defense with Siren and Strobe Light – Each camera also serves as a fully functional alarm system.
  • IP67 Dust and Waterproof – Can operate in extreme weather conditions.
  • Customizable voice alerts – Record personal messages to be played when activity is detected.
  • Connectivity – Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz band transmission
  • Storage – On-board micro-SD card storage up to 256 GB
  • Compatible with Alexa Devices and Google Home

*In extreme environments, such as a completely enclosed warehouse or rural areas in a moonless cloudy night, the C3X will shift to black/white mode to ensure utmost image clarity.

Announcing NeoRhythm: The Next-Generation Neurostimulation Headband NEWS https://macsources.com/announcing-neorhythm-the-next-generation-neurostimulation-headband-news/ https://macsources.com/announcing-neorhythm-the-next-generation-neurostimulation-headband-news/#respond Mon, 29 Jun 2020 13:52:16 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=81785&preview=true&preview_id=81785 NeoRhythm is the first gesture-controlled headband proven effective to help improve sleep, increase relaxation, sharpen focus and help manage pain

OmniPEMF, an innovator in the wellness device industry and leader in brain science, today announces the worldwide availability of NeoRhythm, the world’s first gesture-controlled neurostimulation headband that utilizes pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) technology. NeoRhythm emits scientifically-validated dominant and accompanying frequencies to which the brain synchronizes, creating a perfect mental environment for the desired state of mind (i.e. rest and relaxation or energy and focus).

The PEMF technology in the headband encourages the wearer’s brain to mimic external signals provided by NeoRhythm, which is known as “brainwave entrainment” – the brain’s ability to adjust its brainwaves to external frequencies. The process of doing this intentionally is similar to the effect of a calm song relaxing the mind or a train ride makes you feel sleepy. The rhythm of the wheels matches a brainwave state that encourages sleep and relaxation, and the brain takes a cue from the movement of the train and mirrors the rhythm.

The headband features five non-invasive magnetic-field-producing coils, more than any other similar device, to offer the largest and most precise stimulation area on the market today. With its advanced technology and design, NeoRhythm can be used in five different positions to better reach the area of the brain that needs to be stimulated and the wearer can choose from six stimulation programs, all of which are backed by  scientific studies in the fields of PEMF and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS):

  • Improve Sleep: Helps the brain slow down and go into sleep mode by emitting frequencies of theta and delta brainwaves, which are naturally produced by the brain when we are sleeping.
  • Deep Relaxation: Alpha brainwaves are dominant in the brain when we are calm and relaxed, yet still alert. The headband emits corresponding accompanying frequency of delta waves, and the brain synchronizes to reach a state of calmness.
  • Enhance Mental Capacity: This mode emits a dominant frequency of beta brainwaves, accompanied with a weaker frequency of gamma brainwaves, which are characteristic for the state of higher perception.
  • Pain Control: This program emits dominant gamma brainwave frequency with accompanying alpha brainwave frequency to decrease sensitivity to pain.
  • Meditation: Stimulates the brain with dominant theta waves, which are ideal for deep meditation, or dominant alpha waves, which are characteristic for a state of quiet focus.
  • Energy Plus Vitality: Energizes and re-vitalizes body and mind through two different mechanisms: brainwave entrainment to coax the brain into a state of higher perception and direct re-energization of cells through the generated electromagnetic fields.

“For decades, PEMF technology has been used in expensive wellness devices, but OmniPEMF has taken that technology and put it into a small and affordable wearable device for anyone to use,” said Marko Kadunc, CEO of OmniPEMF. “Millions of people worldwide struggle with sleep, focus and anxiety. After collaborating with neurostimulation researchers, professionals and other experts to ensure our product is top of the line, we’re extremely pleased to bring NeoRhythm to market, giving people the power to change their mental state on demand.”

With the gesture control, wearers can easily turn on and start one of NeoRhythm’s programs with a double tap of their fingers next to the LED light. The device can also connect and be controlled through the mobile app (available on both iOS and Android). The six programs are showcased within the app, which describes how long the program lasts, the frequency being used and how the user  should wear the headband.

NeoRhythm’s efficiency is confirmed by two double-blind, placebo-controlled studies and supported by many other scientific studies that prove the safety of the technology. More information on the science behind NeoRhythm can be found on www.omnipemf.com/science-behind.

NeoRhythm, having recently completed a crowdfunding campaign that ranks in the top 1% on Indiegogo with more than 3,000 backers from 90 countries, is now shipping worldwide with a 60-day money-back satisfaction guarantee.

Apple introduces macOS Big Sur with a beautiful new design

Apple today previewed macOS Big Sur, the latest version of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system. macOS Big Sur introduces a beautiful redesign that is entirely new yet instantly familiar. Safari is packed with new features, including a customizable start page, elegantly designed and more powerful tabs, quick and easy translation, and a new Privacy Report. The updated Messages app lets Mac users send and receive more personal and expressive messages, and easily keep track of and interact within group messages. Maps also offers an all-new experience with immersive features for exploring and navigating the world.

“macOS Big Sur is a major update that advances the legendary combination of the power of UNIX with the ease of use of the Mac, and delivers our biggest update to design in more than a decade,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With its modern and clean look, huge improvements to key apps including Safari, Messages, and Maps, and new privacy features, we think everyone is going to love the breakthrough experience that macOS Big Sur offers.”

Biggest Design Upgrade Since the Introduction of Mac OS X

macOS Big Sur delivers a spacious new design that makes navigation easier, while putting more controls at users’ fingertips. Everything from the curvature of window corners to the palette of colors and materials has been refined, and new features provide even more information and power. Icons in the Dock have been thoughtfully designed to be more consistent with icons across the Apple ecosystem while retaining their Mac personality. Buttons and controls appear when needed, and recede when they’re not. The entire experience feels more focused, fresh, and familiar, reducing visual complexity and bringing users’ content front and center.

The customizable menu bar features an all-new Control Center, delivering quick access to controls from the desktop. An updated Notification Center includes more interactive notifications and redesigned widgets that come in different sizes, providing users with more relevant information at a glance. And a new design for core apps brings more organization to multiple open windows and makes interacting with apps even easier.

A Faster, More Personal, Privacy-First Safari Experience

In the biggest update to Safari since its original launch in 2003, the world’s fastest browser is even faster, providing industry-leading speed1 and battery life.Safari’s fast JavaScript engine helps it outperform other browsers on Mac and PC, and Safari loads frequently visited sites an average of 50 percent faster than Chrome.1Tabs have been entirely redesigned to make navigating with Safari faster and more powerful by showing more tabs onscreen, displaying favicons by default to easily identify open tabs, and giving users a quick preview of a page by simply hovering over the tab.

Safari brings new features for greater personalization while browsing the web. Users can customize the new start page with a background image and sections like their Reading List and iCloud Tabs. With built-in translation, Safari can detect and translate entire webpages from seven languages with just a click.3 Users can further personalize their experience with improved support for extensions, and the Mac App Store makes it easy to discover and download great Safari extensions with a new category that includes editorial spotlights and top charts.

Privacy has always been built into Safari, and a new Privacy Report delivers added visibility into how Safari protects browsing activity across the web. Users can choose when and which websites a Safari extension can work with, and tools like data breach password monitoring never reveal your password information — not even to Apple.

Powerful and Expressive Messages

Messages on the Mac includes new tools to better manage important conversations and share expressive messages. Users can now pin their favorite conversations to the top of their messages list for fast access, and search has been entirely redesigned — organizing results into links, photos, and matching terms — to help users quickly find what they are looking for.

Message effects let users add personality to their messages with balloons, confetti, and more. Users can now create and customize their Memoji on the Mac, and express themselves with Memoji stickers to match their mood and personality. And with a new photo picker and #images, it’s easy to quickly share images, GIFs, and videos.

New group messaging features streamline interactions with family, friends, and colleagues. Inline replies enable users to respond directly to a message, and now they can direct a message to an individual in a group conversation by simply typing their name. And users can now set a photo or an emoji for their group conversation that’s shared with all members of the group.

All-New Planning Tools with Maps

Completely redesigned for macOS Big Sur, Maps brings new features for exploring the world. Discover places to visit and things to do with Guides from trusted resources, or create custom guides of favorite restaurants, parks, and vacation spots that can be shared with friends and family. Get a 360-degree view of a destination with Look Around, and browse detailed indoor maps of major airports and shopping centers. Cycling and electric vehicle trips can now be routed on a Mac, and sent directly to iPhone to have when on the go.

Industry-Leading Privacy

Privacy is at the core of the Mac experience, and macOS Big Sur offers users even more transparency and control over their data. Inspired by the convenience and readability of food nutrition labels, new privacy information detailed in the Mac App Store will help users understand the privacy practices of apps before downloading them, including the types of data the apps might collect — such as usage, contact information, or location — and whether that data is shared with third parties for tracking.

World-Class Developer Tools

Apple’s developer community of more than 20 million use the Mac to create amazing experiences for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. Xcode 12 makes developing great apps for macOS easier than ever. SwiftUI gets a major upgrade so that developers can write entire apps with shared code across all Apple platforms, while easily adding custom Mac features like Preferences windows. And SwiftUI is used in even more places, powering the new widgets for Mac, iPhone, and iPad using shared Swift code.

Mac Catalyst, which debuted with macOS Catalina last year, has made it easy for developers to bring their iPad apps to the Mac. And in macOS Big Sur, Mac Catalyst apps automatically inherit the new look, while giving developers powerful new APIs and total control over the look and behavior of their apps

.Developers can now also offer Family Sharing for their in-app purchases and subscriptions, and with support for the WebExtensions API, developers can easily bring extensions built for other browsers over to Safari.

Apple reimagines the iPhone experience with iOS 14

Apple today previewed iOS 14, introducing the biggest update ever to Home Screen pages with beautifully redesigned widgets and the App Library, a new way to tap into the App Store with App Clips, powerful updates to Messages, and more. The new widgets present timely information at a glance and can be pinned in different sizes on any Home Screen page. Users can create a Smart Stack of widgets, which uses on-device intelligence to surface the right widget based on time, location, and activity.Home Screen pages can display widgets that are customized for work, travel, sports, entertainment, and other areas of interest. At the end of the Home Screen pages is the App Library, a new space that automatically organizes all of a user’s apps into one simple, easy-to-navigate view, and intelligently surfaces apps that may be helpful in the moment. Users can choose how many Home Screen pages to display and easily hide pages for quicker access to the App Library.

Incoming FaceTime and phone calls and Siri interactions take on an all-new compact design that enables users to stay in the context of what they are doing. With Picture-in-Picture support, iPhone users can now watch a video or take a FaceTime call while using another app.“iOS 14 transforms the most iconic elements of the iPhone experience, starting with the biggest update we’ve ever made to the Home Screen,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With beautifully redesigned widgets on the Home Screen, the App Library that automatically organizes all of your apps, and App Clips that are fast and easy to discover, iPhone becomes even more powerful and easier to use.”

A New Way to Discover and Use Apps with App Clips

An App Clip is a small part of an app experience designed to be discovered the moment it is needed. App Clips are associated with a particular product or business, and load within seconds to complete a specific task, such as renting a scooter, purchasing a coffee, or filling a parking meter. They can be easily discovered and accessed by scanning a new Apple-designed App Clip code,1 or through NFC tags and QR codes, or shared in Messages or from Safari, all with the security and privacy expected from apps.

Powerful Updates to Conversations in Messages

Messages is central to communicating with friends and family, and now it’s easier to stay connected and quickly access important messages. Users can pin conversations to the top of their messages list, easily keep up with lively group threads through mentions and inline replies, and further customize conversations by setting a group photo using an image or emoji. New Memoji options in Messages are even more inclusive and diverse with additional hairstyles, headwear, face coverings, and more.

Greener Ways to Explore and New Guides in Maps

Maps makes it easier than ever to navigate and explore with new cycling directions, electric vehicle routing, and curated Guides. Cycling directions take into account elevation, how busy a street is, and whether there are stairs along the route. Electric vehicle routing adds charging stops along a planned route based on current vehicle charge and charger types.2 Guides provide a curated list of interesting places to visit in a city, created by a selection of trusted resources. Guides are a great way to discover hot new restaurants, find popular attractions, and explore new recommendations from respected brands, including AllTrails, Complex, The Infatuation, Time Out Group, and The Washington Post, among others.

Enhanced Privacy Features for More Transparency and Control

All apps will now be required to obtain user permission before tracking.3 Later this year, App Store product pages will feature summaries of developers’ self-reported privacy practices, displayed in a simple, easy-to-understand format. In addition, users can upgrade existing accounts to Sign in with Apple, choose to share their approximate location with app developers rather than their precise location when granting an app location access, and get even more transparency into an app’s use of the microphone and camera.

Additional iOS 14 Features

  • Translate is designed to be the best and easiest app for translating conversations, offering quick and natural translation of voice and text among 11 different languages.4 On-device mode allows users to experience the features of the app offline for private voice and text translation.
  • Siri expands its knowledge, helps find answers from across the internet, and can now send audio messages. Keyboard dictation runs on device when dictating messages, notes, email, and more.5
  • The Home app makes smart home control even easier with new automation suggestions and expanded controls in Control Center for quicker access to accessories and scenes. Adaptive Lighting for compatible HomeKit-enabled lights automatically adjusts the color temperature throughout the day, and with on-device Face Recognition, compatible video doorbells and cameras can identify friends and family.6 The Home app and HomeKit are built to be private and secure, so all information about a user’s home accessories is end-to-end encrypted.
  • AirPods gain the ability to seamlessly switch between Apple devices with automatic device switching.7 Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings a theater-like experience to AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters, and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, sounds can be placed virtually anywhere in a space to provide an immersive listening experience.
  • Digital car keys give users a secure way to use iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start their car. Digital car keys can be easily shared using Messages, or disabled through iCloud if a device is lost, and are available starting this year through NFC.8 Apple also unveiled the next generation of digital car keys based on Ultra Wideband technology for spatial awareness delivered through the U1 chip, which will allow users to unlock future car models without removing their iPhone from their pocket or bag, and will become available next year.
  • Find My will add support for finding third-party products and accessories with the new Find My network accessory program. This will allow customers to use the Find My app to locate other important items in their lives, in addition to their Apple devices. User privacy remains central to the Find My network with end-to-end encryption built in. A draft specification is available for accessory makers and product manufacturers starting today.
  • Safari offers a Privacy Report so users can easily see which cross-site trackers have been blocked, secure password monitoring to help users detect saved passwords that may have been involved in a data breach, and built-in translation for entire webpages.
  • Health has all-new experiences to manage sleep, better understand audio levels that may affect hearing health, and a new Health Checklist — a centralized place to manage health and safety features — includes Emergency SOS, Medical ID, ECG, Fall Detection, and more.10 Health also adds support for new data types for mobility, Health Records, symptoms, and ECG.

iPadOS 14 introduces new features designed specifically for iPad

Apple today previewed iPadOS 14, with new features and designs that take advantage of the unique capabilities of iPad and its large Multi-Touch display. iPadOS 14 introduces an all-new compact design for incoming FaceTime and phone calls, Siri interactions, and Search to help users stay focused on the task at hand. Apps have new sidebars and toolbars that consolidate controls in one place, making them more streamlined and powerful than ever. New Apple Pencil features, including Scribble for iPad, deliver a whole new way to work with handwritten notes, and ARKit 4 delivers a brand new Depth API that allows developers to create even more powerful features in their apps.“With iPadOS 14, we’re excited to build on the distinct experience of iPad and deliver new capabilities that help customers boost productivity, be more creative, and have more fun,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With new compact designs for system interactions and new app designs specifically tailored to iPad, even better note-taking capabilities with Apple Pencil, and more powerful AR experiences, iPadOS 14 delivers an amazing experience that keeps it in a class of its own.”

Enhanced App Experience with New Compact Design, Universal Search, and Redesigned Sidebars

An all-new compact design for incoming FaceTime and phone calls, Siri interactions, and Search are especially useful on iPad, helping users stay focused and get more done in the moment. Incoming FaceTime and phone calls now appear as a lightweight banner so they don’t take up the entire screen, making it easy to quickly tap to answer the call or simply flick to dismiss and get right back to work. Siri now appears at the bottom of the screen when activated, allowing users to seamlessly reference information onscreen while making a request, and it quickly gets out of the way when launching other apps or controlling music.

Search on iPad has been rebuilt from the ground up with iPadOS 14 and is now the one place to quickly find practically anything, from locating and launching apps to accessing contacts, files, and quick information, to getting answers to common questions about people or places. With a new compact design, users can start a search from anywhere, without having to leave the app they’re in. Web searches are even more powerful and refined, delivering more relevant suggestions as users type and the ability to get to search results with just a tap.

Redesigned sidebars across many apps, including Photos, Files, Notes, Calendar, and Apple Music, consolidate navigation into a single place, making it easier than ever to navigate within an app while keeping content front and center. Additionally, streamlined toolbars and new pull-down menus provide access to app controls all in one place.

Doing More with Apple Pencil and Handwritten Notes

iPadOS 14 brings Scribble to iPad with Apple Pencil, allowing users to write in any text field — where it will automatically be converted to typed text — making actions like replying to an iMessage or searching in Safari fast and easy. All handwriting and conversion to text happens on device, keeping it private and secure. When taking notes, Smart Selection uses on-device machine learning to distinguish handwriting from drawings, so handwritten text can easily be selected, cut, and pasted into another document as typed text. Shape recognition allows users to draw shapes that are made geometrically perfect and snap right into place when adding useful diagrams and illustrations in Notes.Data detectors now work with handwritten text to recognize phone numbers, dates, and addresses, and offer users the ability to take actions like tapping a written number to make a call, adding an event directly to Calendar, or showing a location in Maps.Scribble will initially offer support for English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, and mixed Chinese and English, so users can write English and Chinese words together without needing to switch languages.

Augmented Reality That’s Even More Realistic

AR has proven to be an immensely powerful technology that helps accomplish tasks in ways never before possible. ARKit 4 delivers a brand new Depth API that allows developers to access even more precise depth information captured by the new LiDAR Scanner on iPad Pro. Developers can use the Depth API to drive powerful new features in their apps, like taking body measurements for more accurate virtual try-on, or testing how paint colors will look before painting a room. ARKit 4 also introduces Location Anchors for iOS and iPadOS apps, which leverage the higher resolution data of the new map in Apple Maps, where available, to pin AR experiences to a specific point in the world.1

Enhanced Privacy Features for More Transparency and Control

All apps will now be required to obtain user permission before tracking.2 Later this year, App Store product pages will feature summaries of developers’ self-reported privacy practices, displayed in a simple, easy-to-understand format. In addition, users can upgrade existing accounts to Sign in with Apple, choose to share their approximate location with app developers rather than their precise location when granting an app location access, and get even more transparency into an app’s use of the microphone and camera.

Additional iPadOS 14 Features

  • All-new beautifully redesigned widgets present timely information at a glance, and users can select a Smart Stack of widgets, which uses on-device intelligence to surface the right widget based on factors such as time, location, and activity.
  • Messages is central to communicating with friends and family, and now it’s easier to stay connected and quickly access important messages.
  • Siri expands its knowledge, helps find answers from across the internet, and can now send audio messages. Keyboard dictation runs on device when dictating messages, notes, email, and more.3
  • Maps makes it easier than ever to navigate and explore with new cycling directions and curated Guides. Cycling directions take into account elevation, how busy a street is, and whether there are stairs along the route. Guides provide a curated list of interesting places to visit in a city, created by a selection of trusted resources, making them a great way to discover hot new restaurants, find popular attractions, and explore new recommendations from respected brands, including AllTrails, Complex, The Infatuation, Time Out Group, and The Washington Post, among others.
  • The Home app makes smart home control even easier with new automation suggestions and expanded controls in Control Center for quicker access to accessories and scenes. Adaptive Lighting for compatible HomeKit-enabled lights automatically adjusts the color temperature throughout the day, and with on-device Face Recognition, compatible video doorbells and cameras can identify friends and family.4 The Home app and HomeKit are built to be private and secure, so all information about a user’s home accessories is end-to-end encrypted.
  • Safari offers a Privacy Report so users can easily see which cross-site trackers have been blocked, secure password monitoring to help users detect saved passwords that may have been involved in a data breach, and built-in translation for entire webpages.5
  • Accessibility features include Headphone Accommodations, which amplifies soft sounds and tunes audio to help music, movies, phone calls, and podcasts sound crisper and clearer, and sign language detection in Group FaceTime, which makes the person signing more prominent in a video call.6 VoiceOver, the industry’s leading screen reader for the blind community, now automatically recognizes what is displayed visually onscreen so more apps and web experiences are accessible to more people.

watchOS 7 adds significant personalization, health, and fitness features to Apple Watch

Apple today previewed watchOS 7, delivering enhanced customization tools and powerful new health and fitness features to the world’s most advanced smartwatch. Personalization is taken to an entirely new level with shareable and discoverable watch face configurations, while sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection, additional workout types including dance, and a new hearing health feature give greater insight into overall well-being and are designed with privacy in mind. Conveniently on the wrist, Maps is updated with cycling directions and Siri now offers language translation.“We’re energized by the positive impact Apple Watch is having on our customers and are excited to deliver meaningful new tools that support their health, fitness, and wellness,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “watchOS 7 brings sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection, and new workout types together with a whole new way to discover and use watch faces, helping our users stay healthy, active, and connected.”

Watch Faces and Sharing

Faces are central to the watch experience, providing customers with valuable information at a glance and the ability to personalize their Apple Watch. watchOS 7 offers new ways to discover and share unique combinations to completely configure the watch face to suit any activity or lifestyle, from the new parent to the surfing aficionado, tennis player, or photographer. Infinitely customizable and personalized faces, inclusive of complications, can be shared through Messages or Mail, and discovered through the App Store or even from links through websites and social media channels.

watchOS 7 offers updates to faces for more personalization and greater access to favorite apps. The beautifully detailed and ultraprecise Chronograph Pro includes a tachymeter to calculate speed based on time traveled over a fixed distance, the Photos face offers color filters, and the bold X-Large face now has an option to add a rich complication.

Developers now have the ability to offer more than one complication per app on a single watch face. For example, on one watch face, Glow Baby can display multiple complications that help new parents track bottle-feeding, breastfeeding, pumping statistics, and nap times, while Dawn Patrol can show surfers tide, wind speed, and water temperature from a favorite surf spot.

Sleep

With watchOS 7, Apple Watch introduces sleep tracking, taking a holistic approach to sleep by providing valuable tools to help users get the desired amount of sleep, get to bed on time, and create a pre-bedtime routine to meet their sleep goals. Through the detection of micro-movements from the watch’s accelerometer, which signals respiration during sleep, Apple Watch intelligently captures when the wearer is sleeping and how much sleep they get each night. In the morning, the wearer will see a visualization of their previous night’s sleep, including periods of wake and sleep. They will also see a chart showing their weekly sleep trend.

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, a bedtime routine helps the body prepare for sleep. To support this, Wind Down allows Apple Watch and iPhone users to create a customized routine before bed, including setting up a specific scene in the Home app, listening to a soothing soundscape, or using a favorite meditation app. In Sleep Mode, Apple Watch turns on Do Not Disturb and automatically darkens the screen overnight. To help users wake up, Apple Watch offers a silent haptic alarm or gentle sounds, while the wake-up screen shows the current battery level. Depending on personal charging behavior, if the battery is too low within an hour of bedtime, Apple Watch will remind users to charge it ahead of sleep. Sleep data is encrypted on device or in iCloud with iCloud sync, and data is always in the user’s control.

Automatic Handwashing Detection

Washing hands properly for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of illness. In a first-of-its-kind innovation for a wearable, Apple Watch uses the motion sensors, microphone, and on-device machine learning to automatically detect handwashing motions and sounds. It then initiates a 20-second countdown timer, and if the user finishes early, they will be prompted to keep washing. Apple Watch can also conveniently remind the user to wash their hands when they return home. The Health app on iPhone will show frequency and duration of the user’s handwashing, as well as information on the importance of handwashing, as it relates to overall health. Sounds used to detect handwashing are not automatically recorded or saved by the Health app or Apple Watch.

Workout Types and Fitness App

The Workout app is one of the most popular apps on Apple Watch, and watchOS 7 brings four exciting new workout types supported by powerful heart rate and custom-built motion algorithms: Core Training, Dance, Functional Strength Training, and Cooldown. To correctly capture calorie exertion for Dance, Apple Watch uses advanced sensor fusion, combining data from the heart rate sensor and inputs from the accelerometer and gyroscope, that accounts for the unique challenges of measuring different body-to-arm motions typical with dance. This workout type was validated and tested with four of the most popular dance styles for exercise: Bollywood, cardio dance, hip-hop, and Latin.

Apple Watch now offers custom-built algorithms to track Dance, Functional Strength Training, Core Training, and Cooldown. The redesigned Activity app on iPhone, now called Fitness, provides a streamlined view of data including daily Activity, Workouts, Awards, and Activity Trends on one tab, and Activity Sharing and Activity Competitions on another.

Hearing

Following the introduction of the Noise app in watchOS 6 that measures ambient sound levels and duration of exposure, watchOS 7 adds further support for hearing health with headphone audio notifications. Customers can now understand how loudly they are listening to media through their headphones using their iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch, and when these levels may impact hearing over time. When total listening with headphones has reached 100 percent of the safe weekly listening amount, Apple Watch provides a notification to the wearer. This amount is based on World Health Organization recommendations that, for instance, a person can be exposed to 80 decibels for about 40 hours per week without an impact to hearing abilities.Customers can also see how long they have been exposed to high decibel levels each week in the Health app on iPhone and can control the maximum level for headphone volume. No audio from the headphone audio notification feature is recorded or saved by the Health app or Apple Watch.

Additional watchOS 7 Updates

  • For optimal convenience while biking, cycling directions are available right on the wrist. Directions are large and easy to read, and Maps can direct when to dismount and walk the bike, or take the stairs to save time. The wearer can choose a route that avoids steep hills, gets to the destination the quickest, or takes the most direct path.
  • Customers can now use Siri to translate many languages conveniently from the wrist, dictation is handled on device with the power of the Apple Neural Engine for faster and more reliable processing when dictating messages and more, and Apple Watch now supports Announce Messages with Siri. The Shortcuts app is also now available on Apple Watch and can be accessed as a complication.
  • Developers can create graphic complications with SwiftUI, and new developer tools such as Xcode Previews make building them even easier.
  • New complications for native features include: Camera RemoteSleep, and Shortcuts.
  • New Mobility Metrics available in the Health app include: low-range cardio fitness, walking speed, stair-descent speed, stair-ascent speed, six-minute walk distance, double support time, step length, and asymmetry. These metrics are important for the clinical community to monitor patients’ ability to move safely and easily as they age. Typically only measured in a lab setting, these metrics can be uniquely measured by Apple Watch and iPhone, and used by developers, such as Zimmer Biomet, a musculoskeletal healthcare company, in patient care and in management tools such as mymobility.

Privacy

Privacy is fundamental to Apple and particularly important when it comes to health data, so all health features are designed with privacy in mind. Health data is encrypted on device or in iCloud with iCloud sync, and data is always in the user’s control.

Availability

The developer beta of watchOS 7 is available to Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today. For the first time, a public beta will be available to watchOS users next month at beta.apple.com. watchOS 7 will be available this fall as a free software update for Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch Series 4, or Apple Watch Series 5 paired with iPhone 6s or later running iOS 14 or later. Some features may not be available in all regions or all languages or on all devices. Features are subject to change. For more information, visit apple.com/watchOS/watchOS-preview.

In a historic day for the Mac, Apple today announced it will transition the Mac to its world-class custom silicon to deliver industry-leading performance and powerful new technologies. Developers can now get started updating their apps to take advantage of the advanced capabilities of Apple silicon in the Mac. This transition will also establish a common architecture across all Apple products, making it far easier for developers to write and optimize their apps for the entire ecosystem.Apple today also introduced macOS Big Sur, the next major release of macOS, which delivers its biggest update in more than a decade and includes technologies that will ensure a smooth and seamless transition to Apple silicon. Developers can easily convert their existing apps to run on Apple silicon, taking advantage of its powerful technologies and performance. And for the first time, developers can make their iOS and iPadOS apps available on the Mac without any modifications. To help developers get started with Apple silicon, Apple is also launching the Universal App Quick Start Program, which provides access to documentation, forums support, beta versions of macOS Big Sur and Xcode 12, and the limited use of a Developer Transition Kit (DTK), a Mac development system based on Apple’s A12Z Bionic System on a Chip (SoC).Apple plans to ship the first Mac with Apple silicon by the end of the year and complete the transition in about two years. Apple will continue to support and release new versions of macOS for Intel-based Macs for years to come, and has exciting new Intel-based Macs in development. The transition to Apple silicon represents the biggest leap ever for the Mac.“From the beginning, the Mac has always embraced big changes to stay at the forefront of personal computing. Today we’re announcing our transition to Apple silicon, making this a historic day for the Mac,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With its powerful features and industry-leading performance, Apple silicon will make the Mac stronger and more capable than ever. I’ve never been more excited about the future of the Mac.”

Family of Mac SoCs to Deliver Powerful New Features and Best-in-Class Performance

For over a decade, Apple’s world-class silicon design team has been building and refining Apple SoCs. The result is a scalable architecture custom designed for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch that leads the industry in unique features and performance per watt, and makes each of them best in class. Building upon this architecture, Apple is designing a family of SoCs for the Mac. This will give the Mac industry-leading performance per watt and higher performance GPUs — enabling app developers to write even more powerful pro apps and high-end games. And access to technologies such as the Neural Engine will make the Mac an amazing platform for developers to use machine learning. This will also create a common architecture across all Apple products, making it far easier for developers to write and optimize software for the entire Apple ecosystem.

macOS Big Sur Enables Transition to Apple Silicon

In macOS Big Sur, Apple is offering a range of technologies to make the transition to Apple silicon smooth and seamless. With everything built into Xcode 12, such as native compilers, editors, and debugging tools, most developers will be able to get their apps running in a matter of days. Using Universal 2 application binaries, developers will be able to easily create a single app that taps into the native power and performance of the new Macs with Apple silicon, while still supporting Intel-based Macs. With the translation technology of Rosetta 2, users will be able to run existing Mac apps that have not yet been updated, including those with plug-ins. Virtualization technology allows users to run Linux. Developers can also make their iOS and iPadOS apps available on the Mac without any modifications.

New Miiskin App Feature Automates Skin Self-Exams NEWS https://macsources.com/new-miiskin-app-feature-automates-skin-self-exams-news/ https://macsources.com/new-miiskin-app-feature-automates-skin-self-exams-news/#respond Sat, 20 Jun 2020 02:39:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=81530&preview=true&preview_id=81530 Feature leverages unique combination of Apple’s computer vision (CV) and augmented reality (AR) frameworks making skin self-exams effortless and more accurate in clearly identifying changes

Miiskin, a digital health platform helping more than 500,000 people around the world routinely track their skin for changes, today announces a first-of-its-kind feature for privately and automatically taking full-body photos of skin for use in skin self-exams. Automatic Skin Imaging is the most efficient way to help consumers identify new skin lesions, an important part of skin self-exams that is sometimes overlooked, and to more easily compare skin changes over time.

Consumers have never had an easy way to take full-body photos of their skin privately and by themselves. Now, Automatic Skin Imaging makes it simple when it comes to seeing the big picture of changes to your skin, such as on large areas like the back. This feature is an important reminder of a lesser known fact of skin cancer: roughly 80 percent of melanomas appear as new marks or moles and 20 percent come from existing moles, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation. Automatic Skin Imaging is a much-needed simplification in the process of taking photos to identify new skin marks that may be worth bringing to your dermatologist for evaluation.

“I cannot stress enough the importance of checking your skin at home. Visits with the dermatologist are important, but only represent a part of a proper skin surveillance regimen. One of my goals is to empower patients in between visits to the office,” said Dr. Andrew Weinstein, MD, MPH, Dermatologist at Boyton Beach SKIN. “I recommend the Miiskin app because it’s intuitive to use and effective in getting patients to monitor their skin for changes. Their observations can prompt appropriate medical intervention and save lives. The ability for patients to do this on their own, in complete privacy, leaves no excuse for skipping skin self-exams.”

Miiskin makes this essential health exercise, which is recommended by dermatologists, easy to do and keep up with. To take a full-body skin photo on your own:

  1. Place the phone on a stable surface and follow the audible instructions the app provides to you, guiding you in the process of capturing the images of skin.
  2. Once the phone has detected you are in the proper position, it will guide you to move as it takes front and back photos automatically.
  3. You can blur out sensitive sections of the photo if you wish to add to your privacy.
  4. The app directs you to the Web Compare portal to compare photos side-by-side from previous sessions to identify any changes from one session to the next.

While Miiskin is available on both iOS and Android, the new Automatic Skin Imaging feature is rolling out to iOS users first, compatible with iPhone XS, XR, 11, 11 Pro and SE 2020. The feature leverages a unique combination of the latest Apple framework combining Computer Vision and Augmented Reality in the ARKit 3 framework.

Miiskin’s application of ARKit 3 is different: Instead of using AR to input digital objects into a real-world, physical scene, as seen in popular apps like Pokemon Go, it uses the technical computer vision capabilities to detect the scene and surroundings in combination with the person to photograph. The AR technology also augments the camera feed with a digital representation of a human being for visual assistance when learning how to use the new Automatic Skin Imaging feature. Apple’s computer vision technology and the augmented reality capabilities in the ARKit 3 framework improve the accuracy of auto-photography and the user is guided through the autonomous process by the familiar Siri voice.

Miiskin has been on the forefront of machine learning and computer vision in dermatology since the launch of the app’s popular proprietary Skin Mapping tool, which highlights moles and other marks on the skin in photos. Skin Mapping is Miiskin’s consumer version of traditional mole mapping technology used by dermatologists in clinics to track skin changes over time with high-resolution imagery. Without Miiskin, tracking changes in the appearance of skin or moles is time consuming and difficult to perform accurately. Soon, Miiskin users will be able to use Skin Mapping with the Automatic Skin Imaging feature to highlight spots on the skin.

How to Get the App
Miiskin empowers users to identify concerns to bring to their doctor. It does not evaluate risk level or diagnose skin cancer.

Over the summer, Miiskin, a proud partner of The Skin Cancer Foundation, is offering the premium app subscription which includes the new Automatic Skin Imaging feature to users free for three months.

For more information, visit Miiskin.com, Facebook, or Twitter.
