Upgrade your mobile gaming experience with this pro-level controller.

For many years I was a dedicated first-person shooter (FPS) gamer and I only played on console systems. I tried PC gaming and mobile gaming platforms, but they just didn’t suit me. I liked the feel of a standard size game controller and I just didn’t get the precision I wanted from a PC’s keyboard/mouse or the on-screen controls on a mobile phone or tablet. Fortunately, Apple rolled out Bluetooth controller support with its 2019 iOS update. This opened the door for more advanced gaming options on Apple’s mobile devices and when I started actively playing Call of Duty: Mobile in 2022, I was able to have a near-console expereince thanks to my Xbox Elite Controller paired to my iPhone.

As much as I enjoy the experience I get with my Xbox controller, I am always looking at other options for better performance when I game. I want to make sure I’m getting the best possible gaming experience and I always want to have a backup option in case my primary controller fails. I’ve tried many different controllers including the following and none of them have met my gaming needs except the Microsoft Xbox Elite 2 controller.

BIGBIG WON Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller
  • Joso Bluetooth Gaming Controller
  • Razer Kishi V1 & V2 for iOS
  • 7 Watts Elite Series 2 Controller (modded)
  • Various touch-screen gamepads
  • Razer Raiju Gaming Controller
  • GuilKit Kingkong 2 Pro Wireless Bluetooth Controller
  • Sonicon Wireless PS4 Elite Controller
  • RiotPWR Xbox Edition
  • Gamevice FLEX for iOS
  • PowerA MOGA XP5-i Plus Bluetooth Controller
  • Backbone One for iOS
  • RiotPWR ESL iOS Controller
  • Scuf Instinct Pro Controller
  • GameSir X2 Lightning Mobile Gaming Controller
  • Steel Series Nimbus

Since I’ve used such a wide variety of controllers, I had my doubts when I picked up the Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller. I quickly changed my tune once I had it configured and playing CODM with it.

User Experience

The Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller comes in a fairly standard sized gaming controller retail box. The name of the device and its main features are listed on the front of the box and the brand colors (bright orange and dark gray) are very prominent. When you open the box, you find the controller, its charging dock, and extra accessories for the gamepad. If you are familiar with the Xbox Elite 2 controller, the package is very similar to that.

Since the Xbox Series 2 Elite controller is my ‘go-to’ option for my CODM gaming activities, I took immediate notice to the similarities. The button and joystick layout on the Rainbox 2 is nearly identical and even the charging dock is close to the same as what the Xbox Elite 2 has.

BIGBIG WON Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller

The controller was very easy to set up. One of the things I’ve discovered while playing CODM is that not all controllers are compatible with that game — even if they are compatible with the mobile device. So, I was curious if I would run into programming issues like I did with other controller brands. Fortunately, I did not. My iPad Pro (my main gaming device for CODM) recognized it right away as a Bluetooth compatible controller and CODM saw I was connected to a controller. I did have to customize my button layout and program the pro-level buttons, but that was expected.

Now, even though the controller has a similar look to an Xbox controller, I found the gameplay to be quite a bit different — in a good way! The Rainbow 2 controller was very responsive and the back paddle buttons have a mechanical click when you press them. I loved this about the controller. I thought my response time in-game was faster than the Xbox Elite 2 controller and just really enjoyed my time playing with it.

I seriously considered switching over to the Rainbow 2 controller, but there were two big things that caused me to pause with that. First, there are only 1 physical paddles on the back. You can program the top M buttons as paddles, but I’m so used to four paddles that this threw me off a bit. While I could potentially relearn this new button layout.

The only options for updating the controller are through the app. My concern there is longevity. What happens if the company goes out of business or they stop supporting the app? Then I’m left with a dead controller. Some people might see this as a minor concern given the price-point of this controller.

BIGBIG WON Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller

Pros

  1. Looks and feels like an Xbox controller.
  2. Very responsive.
  3. Easy to customize with the app and on the controller.

Cons

  1. You must have app to do updates; you can’t just plug it into an Xbox.
  2. There are only two physical paddles on the back.

Conclusion

The Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller offers a solid and reliable gaming experience for both casual and hardcore gamers. It provides an exceptional gaming experience at an affordable price. The controller’s ergonomic design ensures comfort during long gaming sessions, while its customizable features allow for personalized gameplay. Its wireless capabilities provide freedom of movement without any noticeable lag or latency issues.

BIGBIG WON Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller

Overall, the Rainbow 2 Pro Elite Wireless Gaming Controller is a great investment for anyone looking to enhance their gaming experience. Because the Microsoft Xbox Elite controller can be a pricey controller option, the Rainbox 2 Pro is a much more budget-friendly alternative.

UGREEN RG 65W Nexode Charger 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/ugreen-rg-65w-nexode-charger-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/ugreen-rg-65w-nexode-charger-2023-review/#respond Mon, 09 Oct 2023 15:47:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=117081 Three-Port Robot Shaped GaN charger.

Suppose you have not yet perused my review of the Nexode RG 30W chargers. In that case, I invite you to learn more about the smaller Nexode device to gain some additional appreciation for the larger Ugreen Nexode 65W RG GaN charger.  With wall outlet space at a premium, my main complaint about the 30W RG chargers was with the single USB-C output port.  I liked the fun design, the removable feet (except the inability to attach them to the charger), the compact nature of the charger, and the GaN technology. Like the black robotic RG 30W charger, the 65W RG GaN charger arrived in an attractive black package.

The 4 3/4 inches square by 2 inches thick black-colored retail package listed the white Ugreen name at the top left and the Nexode RG name and descriptor (Ugreen’s 1st Robot GaN Fast Charger 2x USB C 1x USB-A) along the bottom of the panel.  The panel’s left side provided three robot facial expression icons that depicted the charging status of the device (recharging, recharge completed, standby), while the lower right corner displayed a gold-foil 65W icon. The main showcase of the panel was the large black/grey RG robot charger with large ^ ^ eyes and the large subdued purple-colored NEXODE name atop the image.

Unboxing:

Many of the features of the Ugreen Nexode 35W packaging were recreated on the 65W box.  You will find a golden foil “Nexode” on the top panel, an SKU product barcode on the bottom, and three icons on the right-side panel (Higher Efficiency & Less Heat, Thermal Guard  Safe Charging, For Laptops Tablets & Phones).  The left side panel listed the product specifications: 65W 3-port PG GaN Fast Charger, 100-240V 50/60Hz 1.8A Max input, USB-C1 Output 5V/3A 9V/3A 12V/3A 15V/3A 20V/3.25A 3.3-21V/3A 65W Max. USB-C2 Output 5V/3A 9V/3A 12V/2.5A 15V/2A 20V/1.55A 3.21-21V/2.7A 30W Max. USB-A output 5V/3A 9V/2A 12V/1.5A 10V/2.25A 22.5W max, Total output 65W Max, and a note to use appropriate strength cables.  The rear panel provided a generic image of a GaN circuit, product manufacturing labels, company address, and four product features: 1. 65W Fast Charging. 2. GaN Technology. 3. Wide compatibility (Supports PD 3.0, QC 3.0), Smart Power Distribution.

UGREEN RG 65W Nexode Charger

I lifted the top half of the box away from the lower half and found a 5-ounce robot-shaped charger within a form-fit cardboard/plastic tray.  Beneath the tray, you will find a small user instruction manual with FCC/IC statements and a larger 9-panel multilingual instruction manual (EN, FR, ES, JP, CN).  The manual provided a package content panel, a how it works panel, several charging status panels, a specifications table, and a few pages of notes.  Each panel provided a pictorial and verbal representation of the information, and was quite well done.  I liked the tabular charging status and the facial/anthropomorphized representations of the robot: 1. ^ < ^ flashing = Connected to a power supply. 2. – < – solid = No device connected or charging.  3. ^ < ^ solid = charging.  4. ^ ^ solid=Fully charged.  The specifications table listed the product name, plus input/output information.  I liked the tabular layout but felt the information was a bit redundant/repetitive as it was already presented on the left side panel of the packaging. Either way, the information was easy to access and well-presented for a quick refresher.

Testing:

I removed the 2 5/8 inches tall by 1 13/16 inches wide by 1 5/8 inches thick black charger from the box and then removed the 0.1-ounce feet from the robot figurine.  I slid the film away from the front of the charger and then plugged it into a standard type A wall outlet.  The charger had a 1 5/8 inches wide by 15/16 inches tall face, an upper dark grey top, a black bottom, and a grey UGREEN belt region.  Each side panel had an attractive, glossy-black earphone accent, while the top port had dual USB-C ports and a single USB-A port.  Once removed, the magnetic black plastic feet did not attach to the charger’s surface, but could attach to metallic surfaces.  Similarly, with the feet attached, the entire device could stick to a metallic surface.  To use the device, you must first remove the feet to uncover the type A wall plug and the masked product specifications/manufacturing labels.

I plugged Klein Tools Multimeters into each USB-C port and a DROK USB-A multimeter into the USB-A port.  I plugged a variety of USB-C to USB-C (UGREEN/OEM/ANKER) cables between the multimeter and my devices to test their output.  I tried each output port individually and found the multimeter display (iPhone 15 Pro Max/iPad Pro/MacBook Pro) matched similarly to the specifications table.  I then moved to a trial involving all three ports.  I plugged my iPad Pro 12.9” into USB-C port 1, iPhone 15 Pro Max into USB-C port 2, and my son’s iPhone 14 into USB-A port 1.  Starting at 55% at 8:16 PM (15.13/2.38A), my iPad increased to 61% by 8:21 PM (15.12V/1.80A), to 74% by 8:39 PM (15.11V/2.16A), to 87% by 8:58 PM (15.11V/2.06A), 91% by 9:05 PM (15.11V/1.79A), to 97% by 9:24 PM (15.12V/1.03A), and to 100% by 9:40 PM (5.10V/1.85A).

UGREEN RG 65W Nexode Charger

While charging the iPad Pro above, my iPhone 15 Pro Max increased from 61% at 8:16 PM (6.10V/1.90A) to 63% by 8:21 PM (5.08V/1.48A), to 70% by 8:39 PM (5.07V/1.48A), to 80% by  8:58 PM (5.07V/1.50A), 83% by 9:05 PM (5.07V/1.41A), to 91% by 9:24 PM (5.07V/1.20A), to 97% by 9:50 PM, and to 100% by 10:00 PM ((5.11V/0.31A).  The USB-A port allowed my son’s IPhone 14 to increase from 60% (5.07V/1.79A), to 72% at 8:39 PM (5.08V/1.59A), to 84% by 8:58 PM (5.09V/1.31A), 88% by 9:05 PM (5.11V/1.01A), to 94% at 9:24 PM (5.12V/0.64A), to 97% by 9:50 PM (5.11V/0.18A), and to 100% by 10:10 PM (5.11V/0.27A).  I ran a few other power tests with my Nintendo Switch and MacBook Pro 15”.  The Switch increased from 43% at 10:00 PM (15.10V/0.75A) USB-C 1 to 66% at 10:28 PM (15.14V/0.67), 82 % by 10:52 PM, (12.11V/0.60A), to 86% by 11:00 PM (12.12V/0.61A), and to 93% by 11:23 PM (12.15V/0.37A).  My MacBook Pro 15” 2018 increased from 73% at 10:32 PM (20.14V/2.15A), to 84% by 10:52 PM (20.11V/2.15A), 88% by 11:01 PM(20.11V/2.12A), and to 99% by 11:24 PM (20.11V/1.40A).

I was pleased with the output and the robotic charger’s size, shape, and design.  I liked that the robotic feet hid the busy product features underneath the charger, and the device could be used as a fun little knick-knack.  The pixelated faces provided a unique charging experience, unlike other chargers I have tested.  Beyond adding more power, the 65W device expanded upon the single port design and provided a good 1 USB-A to 2 USB-C ports ratio. I enjoy the newer GaN technology and the improvements in power output and size reduction beyond silicone tech. The design was robust enough to provide power to all three devices, yet small enough to avoid overcrowding my wall outlet.  The 65W charger improved upon the single port limitation but fell flat on my second concern of losing the feet once removed.  A metallic back plate is likely not a good idea for risks of metal/contact with a power outlet.  However, I still suspect some may misplace the feet like the accessories of our action figures.

Ugreen 65WGaN oct 2023 004

Cons:
1. As an Apple household, I had no Android devices to test the Samsung quick charging capabilities.
2. The device may be a bit heavy for backpacking at 5-ounces, when compared to the 4.5 ounce Ugreen 65W non robot-shaped GaN charger.
3. Non retractable wall outlet.

catalyst Influence Case iPhone 15 Pro Max 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/catalyst-influence-case-iphone-15-pro-max-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/catalyst-influence-case-iphone-15-pro-max-2023-review/#respond Mon, 02 Oct 2023 16:10:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116992 Tackle your day with a sleek protective MagSafe Compatible case

Like many, I excitedly awaited Apple’s September 12, 2023, new iPhone 15/15 Pro lineup announcement.  I enjoyed the presentation and the jazzy buzz of new features, then patiently prepared for the way-too-early morning preorder on September 15, 2023.  The build-up did not end with the iPhone release/arrival, however.  Despite the allure of the new shiny phone, I remained equally excited about new accessories and cases.  More specifically, I have looked forward to the launch of Catalyst’s iPhone 15 Pro Max 6.7” product line.

Packaging:

The catalyst Influence MagSafe Compatible iPhone 15 Pro Max Case arrived in an attractive 4 1/2 inches wide by 7 9/16 inches tall by 7/8 inches thick hanging-style retail case. The cover panel provided a pacific-blue banner with a bold catalyst company name along the top of the panel and a lower semi-translucent glossy plastic shell cover.  The lower edge of the cover provided a white sticker with the “Influence” product name and detailed the MagSafe compatibility, 6.7” Pro size, and drop-proof protective nature of the product.

The semi-clear cover panel provided more information than a flat drawing/photograph.  I enjoyed directly observing the case, the MagSafe ring, the protective-raised camera protector, and the wrist lanyard.  The blue-colored top panel provided a plastic hinging tab and catalyst web address. In contrast, the bottom panel provided typical product manufacturing labels (soy ink, recycled paper, Made in China, etc.).  The side panels provided a multilingual product feature description: 1. Mil-STD-810G 10ft/3M drop resistant (corner drops). 2. Up to 3.8dBa sound direction toward the user at 1cm over the base device standards.

catalyst Influence Case

The white-colored rear panel provided a more thorough description of the case and features.  The top picture showcased the forward-angled speaker cutouts and data suggesting the user can experience up to 30% louder forward-facing sound.  The second panel demonstrated the non-slip side panel grip material, while the third panel demonstrated an efficient, pocketable phone.  The fourth panel showed the easy-to-access side buttons, the fifth panel showcased several catalyst corner accessories, the sixth panel provided information about the anti-drop wrist lanyard (10Kg pull test), and the seventh panel detailed the raised-edge screen and camera protector.

The last summary image demonstrated a side view of the Influence case, a toggle mute wheel, and the raised camera protection. Interestingly, the image was one of an older device/design, as the new case had a right-side cutout for the new action button. Finally, the lower edge provided a QR code, product SKU barcode, design award logo, eco-friendly package logo, and information about warranty, trademarks, and warnings.

Testing:

I opened the packaging cover, removed the plastic insert, and then the cardboard strap (2.5x higher drop protection and up to 30% louder sound) that held the phone to the inner packaging. The Influence case measured 3 5/16 inches wide by 6 9/16 inches tall by 9/16 inches thick and weighed only 1.4 ounces.  The 0.1-ounce wrist lanyard was wrapped around the cardboard backing and packed adjacent to the phone case. The Influence case had a 1 5/8 inches wide by 1 11/16 inches tall by 1/8 inches tall camera cutout with a raised black border along the top left.

The remainder of the 2 7/8 inches wide by 6 1/8 inches tall back panel consisted of a smoky-frosted black plastic panel. Even though the smoky grey color was on the darker side, it still contrasted nicely against the glossy black camera protector, and the matte black MagSafe ring visible through the back frosted black panel (2 1/8 inches total diameter by 3/16 inches width and lower oval 1/4 inches wide by 13/16 inches tall magnet).

The right side panel (volume button side) provided a matte black grippy surface, rounded corners, a tapered 9/16 inches long by 5/16 inches tall action button cutout (inner dimension 7/16 inches long by 5/16 inches tall), and a conjoined 1 inch long by 1/8 inches tall volume up/down button.  The raised buttons provided a nice tactile feel and proved to be quite responsive.  The left side panel (power button side), provided the same matte black colored grippy surface and rounded corners as the other panel. You will find an etched “catalyst” name along the lower edge and a single 11/16 inches long by 1/8 inches tall power button near the top.

The lower grippy edge provided a 1/2 inches long by 1/4 inches tall USB-C port cutout and 1/16 inches diameter vent hole.  The flat top panel provided the same matte black colored panel and grippy surface material as the side panels. Each of the panels had angled trapezoidal edges for added grip and drop protection.  The slightly-raised front panel provided glancing protection for the iPhone screen.  Each corner had a 3/16 inches long by 3/32 inches tall accessory cutout.  These cutouts were designed to work with the wrist lanyard and Crux Accessory system.  Lastly, the lower edge of the front panel provided dual 9/16 inches long by 3/32 inches tall vented speaker cutouts for forward-facing sound.

catalyst Influence Case

To install the iPhone 15 Pro Max into the Influence case, you must first align the volume/action button side with the edge of the case.  I pressed the phone into the top edge of the case, then the power side, then the bottom edge.  I was pleased with the alignment of the power button, speaker, and USB-C ports and the case/phone’s lightweight nature.  The MagSafe Ring aligned well with the back of the phone and allowed access to MagSafe chargers/mounts without requiring phone case removal. Once my phone was inserted, I installed the wrist lanyard onto the lower crux accessory port.

I gripped the 2-inch-long narrow cable loop (1/16 inches diameter) and guided it through the lower corner crux attachment point.  I placed the 3/16 inches diameter paracord-like loop end (6 1/2 inches long wrist strap loop) through the narrow loop and tightened the Lark’s head knot.  I liked the 5/8 inches long by 5/16 inches wide bullet-shaped cable attachment point with an etched catalyst name, and the 5/16 inches-wide by 3/16 inches tall wrist lanyard slide.  I appreciated the easy installation process and the inclusion of the secure wrist loop/slide.

If you have not watched any drop-test demonstrations, I would encourage you to view them.  For my controlled tests, I held and dropped the iPhone 15 Pro Max Influence case combo onto each corner from a height of approximately 2.5 feet.  Each drop simulated a sliding phone from my dining room tabletop onto my hardwood floor.  I was pleased that the case was protected from these drops, and my iPhone remained undamaged.  I have not yet needed to test this version of the Influence catalyst case in a real-world drop scenario.

However, my children have previously tested the brand’s mettle and helped to forge my trust in the case. The raised screen border will allow you to set your iPhone face down without scratching the surface. While face-up, the borders will add a layer of glancing protection. Similarly, the camera borders added yet another layer of safety.  The case provided several layers of protection from the plastic barrier, raised bezels, a secure MagSafe magnetic attachment ring, and with the addition of various Crux Accessories (sold separately).

I was initially saddened when I learned the new case design removed the volume mute toggle wheel, which was historically a best-in-class feature. However, the new iPhone action button design demanded a change. Where many case brands provide a narrow, difficult-to-access cutout, the influence case provided appropriately sized cutouts for the action button and the lower USB-C port. I tested various USB-C cables against the lower cutout and found each fit nicely within the provided space. Additionally, the action button was easily accessed by my pointer finger or thumb, without obstruction. Lastly, the MagSafe feature allowed for secure magnetic mounting and wireless charging.

catalyst Influence Case

Summary:

You can purchase a clear or Atlantic Blue version if you are interested in other colors beyond the black/frosted case.  I enjoyed the color, the design, the grippy feel, and the overall layout of the case. The iPhone 15 Pro Max Influence case continues to build on my trust in catalyst, which started with my iPhone 6S plus. I look forward to yet another catalyst-enhanced year.

Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/incipio-cru-for-magsafe-iphone-15-case-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/incipio-cru-for-magsafe-iphone-15-case-2023-review/#comments Thu, 28 Sep 2023 17:10:42 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116952&preview=true&preview_id=116952 Experience top-notch protection and innovative style with the cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case.

When a new iPhone comes out, I always jump at getting the upgraded model. My phone of choice is usually the Pro Max (6.7” screen) version and I almost never keep the phone in a case. Ever since the iPhone 5S, I felt that Apple was designing the phones with standard use in mind and that the materials used to make the phones could withstand daily use.

That said, I found myself in need of protective coverage of my new iPhone 15 Pro Max when I had to install a smart security camera on my garage. I didn’t want there to be a chance that I might drop the phone while I was on a ladder since I needed it to complete the setup of the camera. So, in order to avoid that heart-stopping moment when your beloved iPhone slips from your grasp and crashes onto the unforgiving pavement, I put the new Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case on my phone.

Pricing & Availability

The cru. Protective Case has a list price of $49.99 and is available on incipio.com and Amazon. It is currently only available for the 6.7” iPhone size and has four color options — Black Camo, Navy Camo, Navy Canvas, and Brown Faux Leather.

User Experience

Incipio cases come in a simple, branded retail-style box. The front of the box has a cutout so that users can experience the materials used to make the cases first-hand. The callouts on the front of the box for the cru. for MagSafe case indicate the 8ft drop protection, built-in magnets for MacSafe compatibility, and the raised edge protection for the iPhone’s screen. The back of the box also indicates that the case is scratch resistant.

When I slid out the side of the box to pull the case out, I was immediately taken with the simple yet elegant design of it. I happened to get the Black Camo edition of the case and when I installed my phone into it, I was wearing a polo shirt that had a similar design. It was a coincidence, but something that still caught my eye. I love the minimalist color design that Incipio integrated into this case. Even though it is a camo print, it’s very subtle and can easily match up with most styles.

Incipio cru. for MagSafe iPhone 15 Case

Installing the phone was easy. I started with the Action Button side of the iPhone and then worked the case around the other edges. The case snapped into place and I was surprised at how the phone just seemed to settle into the case. Even though it’s highly protective, the case is not bulky and it makes the somewhat slippery iPhone finish much easier to handle.

The cru. case feels great in the hand. While the edges are smooth, the back has a canvas feel to it and it makes it very easy to use the phone for standard tasks. Once the case was on my phone, I didn’t feel concerned whatsoever that my phone wasn’t protected. I have been able to charge my phone wirelessly and via MagSafe chargers. The charging port is easily accessible and the buttons still have a tactile feel to them.

Pros

  1. Easy install
  2. Great style choices
  3. Feels great in hand; very tactical and easy to grip
  4. Not bulky.
  5. Great protective qualities.

DroneMobile Unveils First Dash Cam to Create an All-in-One Solution with Remote Start, Security and Tracking Technology https://macsources.com/dronemobile-unveils-first-dash-cam-to-create-an-all-in-one-solution-with-remote-start-security-and-tracking-technology/ https://macsources.com/dronemobile-unveils-first-dash-cam-to-create-an-all-in-one-solution-with-remote-start-security-and-tracking-technology/#respond Tue, 26 Sep 2023 13:05:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116855&preview=true&preview_id=116855 DroneMobile’s new XC Dash Cam provides complete around-the-clock protection, monitoring your vehicle on and off from anywhere in the world

Firstech LLC, a pioneer in after-market vehicle security and remote start, today announced the launch of the DroneMobile XC Dash Cam, the first dash camera to seamlessly integrate with compatible remote start and security systems so users can see what’s happening in and around their car in real-time from their smartphone.

DroneMobile XC can be installed as a 2K QHD standalone dash cam with GPS tracking and LTE connectivity or added to a security and remote start system. While driving, DroneMobile XC continuously records from the moment the car starts moving until the ignition is turned off. When parked, security sensors will trigger the dash cam to record and send a push notification when it detects incidents like a shopping cart bump, hit-and-run collision, attempted break-in, or unauthorized towing.

“The DroneMobile XC Dash Cam offers eyes on your car and the road like never before,” said Justin Lee, marketing director for Firstech. “With the integration of a dash cam into compatible car alarm and remote start systems, we’re introducing new ways to interact with the DroneMobile app to view live video streams, control, secure and track your car all in one place.”

The DroneMobile XC Dash Cam revolutionizes the way drivers protect their vehicles with its suite of advanced features:

  • High-Definition, Wide-Angle Lens: Equipped with a 2K (2560×1440) front camera that features a Sony STARVIS sensor, the DroneMobile XC delivers 154 degrees of surveillance coverage and captures detailed footage at 30 frames per second in most lighting conditions.
  • Live View from Anywhere: DroneMobile XC provides the latest snapshot from your dash camera right on the home screen of the DroneMobile app. Tap into Live View to see real-time footage, streamed via LTE powered by AT&T, around your vehicle from virtually anywhere.
  • Secure Backup to the Cloud: Any videos a user marks as favorites or important are automatically and securely backed up to the cloud. The DroneMobile app provides convenient access to preview and download recordings to ensure vital moments are captured to protect against theft, vandalism, or accidents.
  • Sleek Profile: DroneMobile XC’s small physical dimensions ensure an unobstructed view of the road.
  • Optional Interior or Rear Camera: DroneMobile XC allows for improved surveillance coverage with an additional video input to connect an interior or rear camera.
  • Expandable Memory Storage: DroneMobile XC has 64 GB of local storage and can be expanded to 256 GB with a compatible micro SD card. With increased storage capacity, your videos are saved longer before they’re overwritten by newer footage.
  • Seamless Installation: Even when installed with a remote start/alarm, DroneMobile XC offers streamlined installation with vehicle-specific t-harnesses to reduce hardwired connections inside of the vehicle.

The latest version of the highly-rated DroneMobile app includes all the exciting new DroneMobile XC Dash Cam functionality. It is available now from the Apple App Store and Google Play. In addition to iPhone and Android apps, the DroneMobile XC Dash Cam can be controlled with Apple Watch, Android OS smartwatches, Amazon Alexa, and Apple’s voice assistant Siri.

While a DroneMobile subscription is not necessary for a local Wi-Fi connection, a subscription is required to connect the dash cam via LTE. Plans are available for control and tracking starting at $3.99 per month, while LTE livestreaming plans will cost an additional $7.00 per month.

DroneMobile XC Dash Cam works with the leading aftermarket remote start and alarm system brands, including Compustar, Arctic Start, NuStart, and FTX, ensuring compatibility with over 95% of vehicles on the road today, including manual transmissions, diesels, European models, and many more.

The DroneMobile XC Dash Cam will be available in Winter 2023 at a retail price of $379.99, not including labor required for installation. DroneMobile XC will be available for purchase and installation at over 2,000 authorized retailers in North America – all offering professional installers trained by Firstech.

UGREEN Nexode 30W RG GaN Charger 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/ugreen-nexode-30w-rg-gan-charger-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/ugreen-nexode-30w-rg-gan-charger-2023-review/#respond Thu, 21 Sep 2023 19:08:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116861

Recharge, Regenerate, and Rejuvenate your electronics.

According to a Deloitte’s 2022 Connectivity and Mobile Trends Survey, each US household has approximately 22 connected devices.  With so many devices requiring power, finding an open outlet or USB port can sometimes be challenging.  From dorm rooms to offices living spaces and theater rooms, many outlets, power strips, and hubs become overwhelmed, while others remain dormant or neglected.

Thus, it is important for home utility to find power adapters capable of providing as much power to as many devices as possible.  My general rule is that a device must provide at least two USB ports (USB-A or USB-C) per outlet at a minimum.  These chargers often assume larger sizes and become too unwieldy for portable use.  Thankfully, more efficient GaN chargers can provide quite a punch for home use, and their smaller frame often allows for improved portability.  When considering portability, I prefer lightweight to port quantity.

Packaging:

The UGREEN 30W Nexode RG GaN Fast Charger arrived in a 4 3/4 inches square by 2 inches tall retail package.  The cover panel displayed the company name along the top left, two robotic face icons along the left panel, the product name/description along the bottom left, and a silver-glistening 30W logo along the bottom right.  I liked the creative charge indicators with a robotic kiss face indicating recharging and the lack of lips suggesting the device was fully charged.

The top panel listed the NEXODE logo in metallic silver font, while the bottom panel provided a product SKU barcode sticker, detailed the product color, and CD359 model number.  The right side panel provided three product detail feature icons (Higher Efficiency & Less Heat, Thermal Guard Safe Charging, and For Laptops Tablets & Phones).  The left panel listed the product specifications: 1. Product name 30W USB-C PD GaN Fast Charger. 2. 100-240V input. 50/60Hz 800mA Max. 3. USB-C output 5V/3A 9V/3A 12V/2.5A 15V/2A 20V/1.5A 3.3-11V/2.7A with total power 30W Max.  Lastly, the panel listed a product note to utilize appropriate charging cables.

UGREEN Nexode 30W RG GaN charger

The rear panel listed the UGREEN name along the top left, provided an attractive image of GaN chip circuit board, listed four product features (30W Fast Charging, GaN Technology, Wide Compatibility [PD3.0, QC 3.0, other fast charging protocol], and smart Power Distribution), as well as manufacturer address, website address (www.UGREEN.com), company contact information, and manufacturing labels.  I liked the design of the packaging, the metallic font accents, and the overall layout of the information.

If a tacticool, matte black/metallic silver, robotic Nexode 30W charger is not your particular flavor of geek, then perhaps the soft-toned, pastel purple option may pique your fancy.  Both sets of packaging (black-colored Outlook Charger and the pastel-colored Robot Colorful New device) provided a fun educational experience.  I liked the contrasting light-dark theme, the metallic accents, and the emotive, cartoonish facial features of the 30W charger.

When I removed the top of the box, I was greeted by a friendly, earphone-wearing, robot-shaped device staring back at me.  The inner surface of the lid provided a fun description of the RG charger (RobotGaN), an ink outline of the device, and images portraying the facial changes of a charging block and one that finished the charging process.  The 2.0-ounce 30W RG charger was shipped cradled within a cardboard/plastic cutout tray.

The flat surface introduced the RG Nexode, detailed the 30W output, and encouraged the user to “charge more.”  Beneath the the tray, I found a short B1 User manual with FCC/ICC statements, and a nine-panel multi-lingual instruction manual (EN, FR, ES, JP, CN).  The manual detailed the package contents, how it works, charging status, specifications (100-240V ~50/60Hz 800mAh input, 5.0V/3A 9V/3A 12V/2.5A 15V/2.0A 20V/1.5A 3.3-11V/2.7A USB-C output, for a total of 30W max output), and a few brief notes.

UGREEN Nexode 30W RG GaN charger

Testing:

I removed the 2 1/4 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches thick black charger from the box. I admired the 1 15/16 inches wide by 3/4 inches tall face, the attractive UGREEN belt buckle name, the glossy black earphone accents on both side panels, the USB-C port on the top of the headphones, and the black plastic feet.  To use the device, you must first remove the feet to access the type A wall plug.

The feet strategically hid the base plate’s product specifications and manufacturing labels.  I liked that the feet clicked securely into the base and that the setup created a fun little knick-knack figurine.  Once the feet were removed, I inserted the charger into a Type B outlet on my multiport hub.  The pixelated ^^ shaped eyes and < shaped mouth briefly activated and then turned off.  I plugged a Klein Tools Multimeter into the USB-C port atop the charger and then an ANKER USB-C to USB-C cable between the multimeter and my iPad Pro 12.9”.

Starting at 64% at 8:10 PM, my iPad Pro increased to 68% by 8:17 PM (multimeter display 14.82V/1.93A).  The iPad Pro increased to 79% by 8:31 PM (14.79V/1.63A), to 89% by 8:46 PM (14.8V/1.59A), and to 98% by 9:15 PM (14.90V/0.54A).  By 9:28, my iPad Pro registered 100% (14.92V/0.41A multimeter), but the charger’s mouth icon did not extinguish.  When I returned to the instruction manual, I found an asterisk on page 4 stating the detection mechanism may vary by brand. I removed the multimeter and plugged my iPad Pro Directly into the device, and the ^^ remained while the < icon turned off. I suspect the multimeter current caused the device to remain in charge mode.   For the second test, I plugged the multimeter into the charger and then a USB-C to Lighting cable into my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Starting at 9:46 PM at 46% (8.93V/2.20A), my iPhone Pro increased to 79% by 10:14 PM (8.95V/0.88A), and by 10:38 PM the iPhone entered Optimized Battery Charging mode and dropped to trickle charge mode (5.15V/0.11A).  The phone message noted that it would charge to full by 3:00 AM.  I checked my iPhone at 3:20 AM and found it was fully charged.  For my final tests, I evaluated the charge rate for several devices.  The RG charged my Nintendo Switch at 14.91V/0.72A, my MacBook Pro 2018 15” at 19.87V/1.41A, my Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (11th Generation) at 5.15V/0.35A, and my Air Pods Pro Gen 2 at 5.15V/0.36A.  Each device charged at a reasonable rate, and once each device was fully charged, the “<“ icon disappeared.

Summary:

For a single-port USB-C charger, 30W may be a bit on the narrow end for larger laptops and MacBooks.  However, the device should work well for most portable electronics, phones, and tablets.  With charger port real estate at a premium, I would have loved for the device to provide at least two ports (See 65W Nexode review coming soon).  Using the screen/face to demonstrate the charging status was a fun, creative, and distinctive method when compared to the use of a generic LED.

I enjoyed the figurine mode, with the attached feet, and could stand/enjoy the RG robot on my desk.  My biggest complaint about the device was the inability to attach the feet to the back of the device once removed even though the magnetic foot base was strong enough to affix the entire RG charger to my metal door and refrigertor. If you grew up playing with action figures, then you know the ire when you cannot find their accessory.  I fear the prong covers will be misplaced or left behind if used in public.  The device needs a method to affix the feet to its side/back while charging.

UGREEN Nexode 30W RG GaN charger

I was pleased with the charge rates for my iPhone 14 Pro Max (several tests showed the promise of ~50% in 30 minutes), iPad Pro, Nintendo Switch, and even my MacBook Pro, although it was below the rate of 65-80W chargers. The outer fire-resistant shell never felt hot, and the single-port charger succeeded in the lightweight and cuteness categories.  I applaud the switch from silicone to Gallium Nitride and UGREENS commitment to the environment.  Their website reports a savings of 5503 tons of CO2 annually, which equates to planting ~220,775 trees per year.

When you factor in the ~$25 price tag and compare it to market-similar devices/features (~$19-30), the single port charger is a reasonable deal.  Considering the lightweight nature and that the feet add prong protection similar to retractable devices, the pocketable device increases in opportunity: cost ratio.  I have added the RG Nexode 30W device to my Nintendo Switch bag, which has now become my device’s travel charger.  The purple 30W device, with the cute posterior bow, was quickly snagged by my 9-year-old daughter to keep her Nintendo Switch ready for action.

Levy Plus Scooter 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/levy-plus-scooter-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/levy-plus-scooter-2023-review/#respond Mon, 18 Sep 2023 16:56:08 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116800&preview=true&preview_id=116800 Upgrade your daily commute with Levy Plus Scooter – the perfect blend of style, speed, and sustainability.

Have you ever been walking around downtown and just really dislike that sore feeling your feet get after being on them for hours on end? Or how about enjoying a-little nature but don’t really enjoy walking or running? Or better yet and in my personal experience, do you have younger kids who have go carts and power wheels that you just don’t have the energy to chase and keep up with anymore? Well I certainly needed something to enjoy playtime with the kids a tad bit more and this Levy electric scooter has certainly elevated that for us. From the light weight design and sleek look it fits the versatility of a on or mildly off road scooter

Levy Plus Scooter

When first unboxing this scooter it may look like it requires a lot of work but the second you peel away the protective story foam and cardboard and get the scooter out you see that it’s essentially all together. With the exception of having to put the brake lever on with the provided Allen key and then screw the handles on which are labeled left and right you’re good to go. I would advise to air up the tires to the recommended tire pressure to ensure the safest and more comfortable ride possible(included is a valve extender to better reach the valve stems on your tires). Between the very nice disk rear brake and the very stylish accent colors the scooter is ready to roll out of the box in under 10 minutes.

Levy Plus Scooter

Product information

This Levy plus scooter does have a the option of two larger batteries coming in at 10 ah battery allowing up to 16 miles per charge on eco and and even bigger 12.8 ah batter allowing up to 20miles per charge on eco where the original Levy scooter has a 6.4 ah battery with a maximum of 10 miles per charge on eco and with both options they have a removable battery that snaps in and out with ease. Also if you’re interested they do sell extra batteries for both models so you can swap out and continue to ride without waiting the 3.5-4 hours to charge, and charging is made very easy with a computer like charger that you can just plug into your wall outlets and plug the battery in at the bottom where there is a water tight rubber cap. Charging can be done with the battery in or out of the scooter as well!

Levy Plus Scooter

A very cool feature this Levy scooter has is the 3 different modes for power output. On the stylish and bright lcd display located in the center of your handle bars you will see the speedometer and the battery indicator at the bottom. To the right of the speedometer there is a blank space that means you are in the beginner mode and that has a max speed of up to 6 MPH. When you press the button with three little lines directly above the power button you will see a white D illuminated on the screen that means you have entered eco mode and that has a Max speed of up to 10 MPH. Push that button one more time and you will see the D light up red and that means you are now in sport mode and that has the maximum speed of 20 MPH. In all three modes the scooter has a setting that doesn’t allow the throttle to be activated until you are going 2 MPH. Note that can be manually turned off in the settings option on the lcd screen as well.

Levy Plus Scooter

One very cool feature this scooter has that I have become very fond of is cruise control, yes you read that correctly this scooter has cruise control and it happens when you are holding the same speed for around 7 seconds. You will hear a relatively loud beep or chime and that informs you that you are using cruise control and can relax your thumb off the throttle and To turn the cruise off all you have to to do it lightly touch the brake or throttle and you will be in full control again. If the cruise control isn’t for you, you may go into the settings and manually turn it off so you don’t have to worry about it any longer.

Levy Plus Scooter

Coming in at 30 lbs they added a very easy to use folding ability, on the bottom neck of the scooter you will find a sliding lock that you can pull to the side and then you have access to a pull down lever, once pulled you will be able to bring the handle down to the base of the scooter, on the rear fender you will see a hole in the top of it where a little hook on the head of the handles will lock into securely so you can carry it one handed with ease! Such a nice feature!

Last little bit of much necessary detail on this scooter is the 10” numeric tires that help shield you from the cracks in a sidewalk or small rocks and obstacles off road. You also get 5.5” of ground clearance! That’s plenty to get you over those speed bumps without worry! All models have a max rider weight of 275 lbs and front wheel drive.

Levy Plus Scooter

Safety features

The Levy plus scooter is equipped with a very bright led headlight that can be manually turned on by double pressing your three line action button and turned off by doing the same. When the headlights are on the brake light is illuminated as well and when you are using the brakes it uses a strobe effect to further announce your stoping. When the headlights are off the use of the brakes will still engage the brake light to make sure your always seen when stoping. On the sides of the front and brake wheels you will find neatly placed reflective strips the front are white and the back match your scooter accent color, a very appealing touch. Also equipped is an Emergency brake. A brake like every scooter owner is familiar with, the old push the rear fender down will result in more wear to the tire but in the event that your disc brakes do malfunction you have a safe way to come to a stop. Also does come equipped with a one finger dual action bell that is loud enough to get the attention of someone walking near or maybe even a dog on the trail. Just that little extra comfort of being able to say hey here I am with the ease of a single pull of the bell.

Levy Plus Scooter

Conclusion

Overall I would have to say I am throughly happy and impressed with this scooter. Between having something to run around with the kids on to taking it on a nature ride down the river path. It can be easily folded and put in the car or carried into your hotel room on your trips to the city or your commutes to work. I really do like the looks and feel while riding as well it is very smooth and comfortable and makes it a breeze to use. Even my wife who’s always been afraid of trying new things gave it a try and we started her out going through the beginner – sport and she quickly became comfortable enough to use it on sport. That is mainly what makes this so great is how easy it is to use from the box to every day.

Super-Stretch Selfie Straps 2023 REVIEW https://macsources.com/super-stretch-selfie-straps-2023-review/ https://macsources.com/super-stretch-selfie-straps-2023-review/#respond Thu, 14 Sep 2023 18:04:00 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116690

Wrap up your cables and declutter your personal space with Super-Stretch Selfie Straps.

Even though my wife and I find ourselves on opposite ends of the tech-loving/tolerating coin, we agree on one major tenet: cords and cable clutter are a nuisance.  As a technophile, I like to adopt new technologies/devices, and enjoy learning/gaining new functions/opportunities.  Our home has several Apple TVs and gaming consoles attached to our televisions, various iterations of Alexa, essential oil diffusers, and other devices like Linksys Velop mesh nodes.

When you consider iPhone, iPad, MacBook charging cables, hoverboards, and other kids’ toys, our outlets resemble Medusa’s hair.  Like Perseus’ tricks at dealing with the Gorgon, I employ the magic of hook-loop cable straps to control/slay the cable menace.

Super-Stretch Selfie Straps

Packaging:

The Wrap-It Storage Super-Stretch Selfie Straps arrived in a matte black 7 5/16 inches long by 5 1/4 inches wide by 11/16 inches thick retail package.  The cover, top, bottom, and both side panels displayed a yellow/black Wrap-IT storage logo with bright highlighter-yellow accents. I enjoyed the variety, the dark background, and the play on contrasting colors.  However, I do not believe the logo should have been imprinted on each surface.  The rear panel provided a large white sticker on a black background.

The upper segment of the panel provided a yellow accented product name, a quaint humanized statement about the strap, and two product feature descriptors (1. Stays Attached. 2. Super-Stretch Material).  The mid/lower segment provided a helpful three-step how-to (1. Loop and secure the yellow tab around the cord. 2. Wrap the cord with a soft loop side of the strap facing out. 3. Pull snugly and attach), and dual images portraying a wrapped cable, and an extremely organized, junk drawer.  Lastly, the panel’s right edge provided a small image depicting the twelve 6” black straps, an SKU barcode, Wrap-IT logo, @WrapItStorage, address information, and a QR code.

Super-Stretch Selfie Straps

Testing:

I opened the box and removed the included Wrap-It Storage advertisement card, and the twelve 3 3/4 inches long by 1-inch wide straps. Each strap had a 1×1 inch black elastic patch with a centralized W logo (11/16 inch diameter yellow circle with a black W in the negative space), a 5 1/8 inches soft loop section, and a 1/2 inch long by 1-inch wide yellow-colored hook segment.  Directly opposed to the W patch, each strap had a 1×1 inch black loop segment.  When I removed the yellow hook section from the loop section and tugged outward, the 6 3/4 inches long cable stretched to approximately 12 1/2 inches long.

To use the Selfie Straps, I placed the W logo facing upward, undid the yellow hook segment, and opened the strap.  I placed a USB-C cable at the yellow-hook/black-loop junction, draped the yellow-hook over it, and affixed it to the black-loop section.  I then coiled the cable, wrapped the strap over the loop and affixed the black hook segment to the loop segment.

Super-Stretch Selfie Straps

I liked the secure hook-loop attachment and the stretchy elastic material.  Additionally, my OCD nature enjoyed the ability to orient/align the symmetrical, vibrant yellow, square patches.  I found the width worked well with USB cables, power strip cables, and to secure the cable of my UGREEN 200W desk charger.  However, the larger Wrap-IT Super Stretch Storage Straps worked better for the larger tools in my garage.

Apple unveils iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-iphone-15-pro-and-iphone-15-pro-max/ https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-iphone-15-pro-and-iphone-15-pro-max/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2023 19:05:47 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116749 Featuring a strong and lightweight titanium design with new contoured edges, a new Action button, powerful camera upgrades, and A17 Pro for next-level performance and mobile gaming

Apple today debuted iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, designed with aerospace-grade titanium that’s strong yet lightweight to deliver Apple’s lightest Pro models ever. The new design also features contoured edges and a customizable Action button, allowing users to personalize their iPhone experience. Powerful camera upgrades enable the equivalent of seven pro lenses with incredible image quality, including a more advanced 48MP Main camera system that now supports the new super-high-resolution 24MP default, the next generation of portraits with Focus and Depth Control, improvements to Night mode and Smart HDR, and an all-new 5x Telephoto camera exclusively on iPhone 15 Pro Max. A17 Pro unlocks next-level gaming experiences and pro performance. The new USB‑C connector is supercharged with USB 3 speeds — up to 20x faster than USB 2 — and together with new video formats, enables powerful pro workflows that were not possible before.1 And with the addition of Roadside Assistance via satellite, the iPhone 15 Pro lineup builds on Apple’s innovative satellite infrastructure to connect users to help if they have car trouble while off the grid.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in four stunning new finishes, including black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

“This is the most pro lineup we have ever created, with a state-of-the-art titanium design, the best iPhone camera system yet that enables game-changing new workflows, and the A17 Pro chip, which ushers in a new chapter of performance and games never before seen on iPhone,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max represent the best of Apple design and industry-first innovations to help enrich the everyday experiences of our users, while enabling them to unleash their creativity.”

A Stunning, Lightweight, and Durable Design

Available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes,2 iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature a strong and lightweight titanium design — a first for iPhone. This premium alloy — the same used in spacecraft — has one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any metal, making this Apple’s lightest Pro lineup ever. Both models feature a new refined brush texture, contoured edges, and the thinnest borders on iPhone. The Pro lineup is built to last, combining the strength of titanium with the toughest back glass in a smartphone and the industry-leading Ceramic Shield on the front. Using an industry-first thermo-mechanical process, the titanium bands encase a new substructure made from 100 percent recycled aluminum, bonding these two metals with incredible strength through solid-state diffusion. The aluminum frame helps with thermal dissipation and allows the back glass to be easily replaced. This new design highlights the Super Retina XDR display with Always-On and ProMotion technologies for an exceptional viewing experience.

The all-new Action button replaces the single-function switch used to toggle between ring and silent, offering additional options so users can choose between quickly accessing the camera or flashlight; activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate,3 and accessibility features like Magnifier; or using Shortcuts for more options. A press-and-hold gesture with fine-tuned haptic feedback and visual cues in the Dynamic Island ensure the new button launches the intended action.

A17 Pro: A New Generation of Apple Silicon for iPhone

Bringing pro performance and capabilities, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are powered by A17 Pro, the industry’s first 3-nanometer chip. Continuing Apple’s leadership in smartphone silicon, A17 Pro brings improvements to the entire chip, including the biggest GPU redesign in Apple’s history. The new CPU is up to 10 percent faster with microarchitectural and design improvements, and the Neural Engine is now up to 2x faster, powering features like autocorrect and Personal Voice in iOS 17. The pro-class GPU is up to 20 percent faster and unlocks entirely new experiences, featuring a new 6-core design that increases peak performance and energy efficiency. Now with hardware-accelerated ray tracing — which is 4x faster than software-based ray tracing — iPhone 15 Pro offers smoother graphics, as well as more immersive AR applications and gaming experiences. iPhone 15 Pro brings true-to-life gaming to the palm of users’ hands with console titles never before seen on a smartphone, like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage.4

A17 Pro includes a dedicated AV1 decoder, enabling more efficient, high-quality video experiences for streaming services. Additionally, a new USB controller enables USB 3 speeds on iPhone for the first time, now supporting much higher transfer speeds and video output up to 4K at 60 fps HDR.

A Powerful Pro Camera System for More Creative Control

Through a deep integration of hardware and software, the advanced camera systems on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max both pack the equivalent of seven pro lenses — all enabled by A17 Pro. With the power of computational photography, the 48MP Main camera, built exclusively for the Pro lineup, gives users even more flexibility with a new 24MP super-high-resolution default, offering incredible image quality at a practical file size ideal for storing and sharing. The Main camera allows users to switch between three popular focal lengths — 24 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm — and even choose one as a new default. In addition to 48MP ProRAW, the Main camera also supports 48MP HEIF images with 4x more resolution. iPhone 15 Pro features an expansive 3x Telephoto camera, and iPhone 15 Pro Max provides the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone: 5x at 120 mm. Great for close-ups, wildlife photos, and catching the action from further distances, the new Telephoto camera on iPhone 15 Pro Max has an innovative tetraprism design with a combined optical image stabilization and autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, Apple’s most advanced stabilization system yet.

Next-generation portraits on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature sharper detail, more vivid colors, and better low-light performance. For the first time, users can take portraits without having to switch to Portrait mode. When there’s a person, dog, or cat in the frame, or when a user taps to focus, iPhone automatically captures depth information, so users can turn photos into stunning portraits later in the Photos app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. For greater creative control, users can also adjust the focus point after the photo has been taken.

Additional features that benefit all cameras on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max include:

  • Night mode gets better with sharper details and more vivid colors, now powered by the Photonic Engine, including Night mode portraits, enabled by the LiDAR scanner.
  • New Smart HDR captures subjects and the background with more true-to-life renderings of skin tones, while ensuring photos have brighter highlights, richer midtones, and deeper shadows when viewed in the Photos app. This advanced HDR rendering is also available to third-party apps, so images can look even better when shared online.
  • The best quality video in a smartphone is upgraded thanks to A17 Pro, with improvements in low-light video and Action mode.

The preferred smartphone for creative pros and filmmakers gets even better with new pro workflows. Users can now get up to 20x faster transfer speeds with an optional USB 3 cable. iPhone and third-party solutions like Capture One also help photographers create a pro studio, allowing them to shoot and instantly transfer 48MP ProRAW images from iPhone to Mac. ProRes video can be recorded directly to external storage, enabling higher recording options up to 4K at 60 fps, and greater flexibility on set when using iPhone as the main camera. iPhone 15 Pro also introduces a new option for Log encoding and is the first smartphone in the world to support ACES, the Academy Color Encoding System, a global standard for color workflows.

Coming later this year, iPhone 15 Pro will add a new dimension to video capture with the ability to record spatial video for Apple Vision Pro. Users will be able to capture precious moments in three dimensions and relive those memories with incredible depth on Apple Vision Pro when it is available early next year in the U.S.

Next-Level Wireless Performance and Connectivity

The iPhone 15 Pro lineup offers convenient new ways to charge, find friends in busy places, and stay connected while traveling. Both models use the USB‑C connector, a universally accepted standard for charging and transferring data, allowing the same cable to charge iPhone, Mac, iPad, and the updated AirPods Pro (2nd generation). Users can also charge AirPods or Apple Watch directly from iPhone with the USB‑C connector. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support USB 3 for data transfer speeds up to 10 gigabits per second, up to 20x faster than before.

Both models feature the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, enabling two iPhone devices with this chip to connect at three times the range as before. This opens up a new way to use Precision Finding for Find My friends, so iPhone 15 users can share their location and find each other, even in crowds. Precision Finding is built with the same privacy protections that users have come to trust in Find My.5

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max now support Wi-Fi 6E for greater wireless performance, including up to 2x faster speeds, and introduces the first Thread-enabled smartphones, opening up future opportunities for Home app integrations.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come equipped with super-fast 5G,6 and include:

  • Support for MagSafe and future Qi2 wireless charging.
  • Improved audio quality on phone calls, including those made on FaceTime or third-party apps. Sound quality gets even better when users select Voice Isolation, so conversations come through loud and clear, even if they are somewhere noisy.
  • eSIM with support from more than 295 carriers. When traveling the world, users can stay connected through affordable international roaming plans from their existing carrier, or purchase prepaid eSIM plans in over 50 countries and regions, including Australia, Italy, Thailand, and more.

Expanded Safety Capabilities for Peace of Mind

The iPhone 15 lineup offers critical safety capabilities to provide assistance when it matters most, including Crash Detection7 and Emergency SOS via satellite.8 Currently available in 14 countries and regions on three continents, Emergency SOS via satellite has made a significant impact in users’ lives. This groundbreaking service will come to Spain and Switzerland later this month.

Building on this innovative satellite infrastructure, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max introduce Roadside Assistance via satellite. Beginning in the U.S., when a user has car trouble and cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are not available, they can now connect to AAA, the country’s largest roadside assistance provider.9 An intuitive interface, including a short questionnaire to capture important details, will transmit the information via satellite so AAA can message with the user directly and dispatch help to their exact location. Access to Roadside Assistance via satellite will be included for free for two years. Service is covered according to AAA membership, but is also available separately for nonmembers.10

Featuring iOS 17

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature iOS 17,11 making iPhone even more personal and intuitive with new features:

  • The Phone app gets major updates, with Contact Posters that allow users to customize how they appear to their contacts, and Live Voicemail, which leverages the power of A17 Pro to see real-time on-device transcription as someone leaves a voicemail. Users can even pick up the call while the caller is leaving their message.
  • Messages gets a new stickers experience, more powerful search, transcription of audio messages, and Check In, which allows users to automatically notify friends and family when they have made it to their destination safely.
  • NameDrop gives users a new way to use AirDrop to more easily share contact information by simply bringing two iPhone devices together. The same gesture can be used to AirDrop content and more, and now users can step away from each other and finish sending large files over the internet.12
  • StandBy gives users a customizable full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when iPhone is on its side and charging. With the Always-On display of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, StandBy stays on to show useful information — perfect on a desk, nightstand, or kitchen counter.
  • Interactive widgets on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and in StandBy allow users to take action with just a tap, making it easy to complete a to-do, or play or pause a song right from the widget.
  • Safari adds greater protection for Private Browsing and introduces profiles, helping users separate their browsing for topics like work and personal.

iOS 17 delivers many more updates, including Journal,13 a new app that helps iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling, improvements to autocorrect and Dictation that make entering text faster and easier than ever before, password and passkey sharing with iCloud Keychain, and much more.

Better for the Environment

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are designed with the environment in mind. As Apple continues to work toward its 2030 goal of making every product carbon neutral — from design to manufacturing to customer use — the company is prioritizing clean electricity across the entire supply chain and designing products with recycled and other low-carbon materials. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max now use more recycled content, with a 100 percent recycled aluminum substructure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery — both firsts for Apple. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max also include 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets and 100 percent recycled gold in the USB‑C connector as well as the gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards. Both models meet Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency and are free of mercury, PVC, and beryllium. Over 99 percent of the packaging is fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from its packaging by 2025.

To further reduce impact on the planet, Apple will no longer use leather in any new Apple products, including iPhone accessories. Apple is introducing a new FineWoven Case with MagSafe and FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe, made from a durable and elegant microtwill with a soft, suedelike feel. The material is made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled content and has significantly lower carbon emissions compared to leather.

Apple debuts iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus https://macsources.com/apple-debuts-iphone-15-and-iphone-15-plus/ https://macsources.com/apple-debuts-iphone-15-and-iphone-15-plus/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2023 19:05:41 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116746 A huge leap forward for iPhone with a gorgeous new design featuring a durable, color-infused back glass and new contoured edge; the Dynamic Island; a 48MP Main camera with 2x Telephoto; and USB‑C

Apple today announced iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, featuring an industry-first color-infused back glass with a stunning, textured matte finish, and a new contoured edge on the aluminum enclosure. Both models feature the Dynamic Island, and an advanced camera system designed to help users take fantastic photos of everyday moments in their lives. A powerful 48MP Main camera enables super-high-resolution photos and a new 2x Telephoto option to give users a total of three optical zoom levels — like having a third camera. The iPhone 15 lineup also introduces the next generation of portraits, making it easier to capture portraits with great detail and low-light performance. Building on Apple’s innovative satellite infrastructure, Roadside Assistance via satellite can connect users to AAA if they have car trouble while off the grid. With A16 Bionic for powerful, proven performance; a USB‑C connector; Precision Finding for Find My friends; and industry-leading durability features, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus represent a huge leap forward.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in five stunning new colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

“iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus represent a huge leap forward with exciting camera innovations that inspire creativity, the intuitive Dynamic Island, and features like Roadside Assistance via satellite that make a real difference in users’ lives,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing. “We’re also pushing the power of computational photography to new levels this year with a 48MP Main camera featuring a new 24MP default for super-high-resolution photos, a new 2x Telephoto option, and next-generation portraits.”

A Beautiful and Durable Design with an Advanced Display

Available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes,1 iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature the Dynamic Island, an innovative way to interact with important alerts and Live Activities. The elegant experience fluidly expands and adapts so users can see the next direction in Maps; easily control music; and, with third-party app integrations, get real-time updates on food delivery, ride sharing, sports scores, travel plans, and more. The Super Retina XDR display is great for watching content, streaming Apple Fitness+ workouts, and playing games. Peak HDR brightness now reaches up to 1600 nits so HDR photos and videos look better than ever. And when it is sunny, peak outdoor brightness reaches up to 2000 nits — twice as bright as the previous generation.

Both models feature a sophisticated new look that’s built to last. For the first time in a smartphone, color is infused throughout the back glass, creating five beautiful colors. The back glass is strengthened with an optimized dual-ion exchange process before being polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish. A new contoured edge on the aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure feels even nicer in users’ hands, and the Ceramic Shield front cover continues to be tougher than any other smartphone glass. With a water- and dust-resistant design2 and industry-leading durability features, iPhone lasts and holds its value longer than any other smartphone. Plus, the internal design provides powerful sustained performance, while improving ease and affordability of repairs.

A Powerful Camera to Capture Every Moment in Super-High Resolution

The advanced camera system on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus helps users capture everyday moments and cherished memories. A 48MP Main camera shoots sharp photos and videos while capturing fine details, with a quad-pixel sensor and 100 percent Focus Pixels for fast autofocus. Using the power of computational photography, the Main camera gives users a new 24MP super-high-resolution default, offering incredible image quality at a practical file size ideal for storing and sharing. By intelligently integrating hardware and software, an additional 2x Telephoto option gives users three optical-quality zoom levels — 0.5x, 1x, 2x — for the first time on an iPhone dual-camera system.

Next-generation portraits on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature sharper detail, more vivid colors, and improved low-light performance. Shooting at night gets better with improvements to Night mode, including sharper details and more vivid colors. When lighting is bright or uneven, new Smart HDR captures subjects and the background with more true-to-life renderings of skin tones, while ensuring photos have brighter highlights, richer midtones, and deeper shadows when viewed in the Photos app. This advanced HDR rendering is also available to third-party apps, so images can look even better when shared online. These improvements benefit the 48MP Main camera, Ultra Wide camera, and TrueDepth front camera.

A16 Bionic: Proven, Powerful Performance

The fast and efficient A16 Bionic chip brings proven performance to iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, powering the Dynamic Island, computational photography capabilities, and more. With two high-performance cores that use 20 percent less power and four high-efficiency cores, the 6-core CPU is faster than the previous generation and easily handles intensive tasks while delivering extraordinary battery life. The 5-core GPU has 50 percent more memory bandwidth for smooth graphics when streaming videos and playing games. A new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second, enabling even faster machine learning computations for features like Live Voicemail transcriptions in iOS 17 and third-party app experiences — all while protecting critical privacy and security features using the Secure Enclave.

Expanded Safety Capabilities for Peace of Mind

The iPhone 15 lineup offers critical safety capabilities to provide assistance when it matters most, including Crash Detection3 and Emergency SOS via satellite.4 Currently available in 14 countries and regions on three continents, Emergency SOS via satellite has made a significant impact in users’ lives. This groundbreaking safety service will come to Spain and Switzerland later this month.

Building on this innovative satellite infrastructure, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus introduce Roadside Assistance via satellite. Beginning in the U.S., when a user has car trouble and cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are not available, they can now connect to AAA, the country’s largest roadside assistance provider.5 An intuitive interface, including a short questionnaire to capture important details, will transmit the information via satellite so AAA can message with the user directly and dispatch help to their exact location. Access to Roadside Assistance via satellite will be included for free for two years. Service is covered according to AAA membership, but is also available separately for nonmembers.6

Powerful Connection Capabilities

The iPhone 15 lineup offers convenient new ways to charge, find friends in busy places, and stay connected while traveling. Both models use a USB‑C connector, a universally accepted standard for charging and transferring data, allowing the same cable to charge iPhone, Mac, iPad, and the updated AirPods Pro (2nd generation). Users can also charge AirPods or Apple Watch directly from iPhone with the USB‑C connector.7 Both models support MagSafe and future Qi2 chargers for wireless charging.

Both models feature the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, enabling two iPhone devices with this chip to connect at three times the range as before. This opens up a new way to use Precision Finding for Find My friends, so iPhone 15 users can share their location and find each other, even in crowds. Precision Finding is built with the same privacy protections that users have come to trust in Find My.8

iPhone 15 models continue to deliver a high-quality, superfast 5G experience9 and improved audio quality on phone calls, including those made on FaceTime or third-party apps. Sound quality gets even better when users select Voice Isolation to come through loud and clear, even if they are somewhere noisy.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have eSIM, a more convenient and secure alternative to a physical SIM card, with support from more than 295 carriers. When traveling the world, users can stay connected through affordable international roaming plans from their existing carrier, or purchase prepaid eSIM plans in over 50 countries and regions, including Australia, Italy, Thailand, and more.

Featuring iOS 17

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature iOS 17,10 making iPhone even more personal and intuitive with new capabilities:

  • The Phone app gets major updates with Contact Posters, which allows users to customize how they appear to their contacts, and Live Voicemail, which leverages the power of A16 Bionic to see real-time on-device transcription as someone leaves a voicemail.
The same gesture can be used to AirDrop content and more.
  • StandBy gives users a customizable full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when iPhone is on its side and charging. With support for Live Activities, Siri, incoming calls, and larger notifications, StandBy is perfect for a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk.

iOS 17 delivers many more updates, including Journal,11 a new app that helps iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling; improvements to autocorrect and Dictation; greater protection for Private Browsing in Safari; password and passkey sharing with iCloud Keychain; pet recognition in Photos; and much more.

Better for the Environment

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are designed with the environment in mind. As Apple continues to work toward its 2030 goal of making every product carbon neutral — from design to manufacturing to customer use — the company is prioritizing clean electricity across the entire supply chain and designing products with recycled and other low-carbon materials. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now use even more recycled content, with 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and 100 percent recycled copper in the main logic board, copper wire in the Taptic Engine, and copper foil in the inductive charger in MagSafe — all firsts for iPhone. Both models also include 75 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, and 100 percent recycled gold in the USB‑C connector as well as the gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards. The iPhone 15 lineup meets Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency and is free of mercury, PVC, and beryllium. Over 99 percent of the packaging is fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from its packaging by 2025.

Apple is introducing a new FineWoven Case with MagSafe and FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe, made from a durable and elegant microtwill with a soft, suedelike feel. Apple unveils Apple Watch Ultra 2 https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-apple-watch-ultra-2/ https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-apple-watch-ultra-2/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2023 18:59:45 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116743 Apple’s most rugged and capable watch is now even better with performance updates, a new double tap gesture, and carbon neutral options

Apple today introduced Apple Watch Ultra 2, bringing new features to Apple’s most capable and rugged smartwatch, and achieving a significant environmental milestone. Apple Watch Ultra 2 offers all of the features users love about Ultra, plus the powerful new S9 SiP, a magical new double tap gesture, Apple’s brightest display ever, expanded altitude range, on-device Siri, Precision Finding for iPhone, and advanced capabilities for water adventures. Apple Watch Ultra 2 runs watchOS 10, which delivers redesigned apps, the new Smart Stack, new cycling experiences, features to help explore the outdoors, and a new watch face — Modular Ultra. With all the new advancements, Apple Watch Ultra 2 has the same 36-hour battery life with regular use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode.

For the first time, customers can choose a carbon neutral option of any Apple Watch, representing a significant milestone toward Apple 2030: Apple’s plan to be carbon neutral across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 can be ordered today, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

“This year we’ve made our most rugged and capable Apple Watch even better,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “Apple Watch Ultra 2 is our most advanced Apple Watch, with great performance and feature updates. It’s perfect for anyone who wants our biggest, brightest display, longest battery life, and best GPS of any Apple Watch, all in a stunning design.”

Powerful New S9 SiP

Apple Watch Ultra 2 is powered by custom Apple silicon in the all-new S9 SiP. Apple’s most powerful watch chip yet delivers systemwide improvements and brand-new features, including a new double tap gesture and on-device Siri with the ability to access and log health data privately and securely. Apple Watch Ultra 2 also has a new 4-core Neural Engine that can process machine learning tasks up to twice as fast as the original Apple Watch Ultra.

Double Tap Gesture

Innovations such as the Digital Crown and Taptic Engine — along with gestures like tap, swipe, wrist raise, and cover to mute — make Apple Watch simple and intuitive to use. With a new double tap gesture, users can easily control Apple Watch Ultra 2 using just one hand and without touching the display. Users can tap the index finger and thumb of their watch hand together twice to quickly and conveniently perform many of the most common actions on Apple Watch Ultra 2. Double tap will also open the Smart Stack from the watch face, and another double tap will scroll through widgets in the stack.

Double tap controls the primary button in an app so it can be used to stop a timer, play and pause music, or snooze an alarm. The gesture can be used to answer and end a phone call, take a photo with the Camera Remote on Apple Watch, or even switch to the new Elevation view in the Compass app to see the relative elevation of saved waypoints.

The new double tap gesture is enabled by the faster Neural Engine in Apple Watch Ultra 2, which processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor with a new machine learning algorithm. The algorithm detects the unique signature of tiny wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap. The double tap gesture will be available in a software update next month.

Brighter Display

A new advanced display architecture pushes the maximum brightness of Apple Watch Ultra 2 to 3000 nits — 50 percent brighter than the first generation of Apple Watch Ultra and the brightest display Apple has ever designed — for greater readability in harsh sunlight. For dark rooms or early mornings, the display can also lower to just one nit so as not to disturb people close by. Flashlight also benefits from the new display architecture; rotating the Digital Crown temporarily doubles the brightness to better light the way.

Modular Ultra Watch Face

A new watch face designed for Apple Watch Ultra — Modular Ultra — takes advantage of the large display, using the outermost edge to present real-time data, including seconds, altitude, or depth. It offers the most complications of any Apple digital watch face to customize for sports, outdoor adventures, and ocean and water activities.

Tested for Extremes

Apple Watch Ultra 2 is designed for extremes and has been tested for use across the largest range of altitudes for any Apple product, from 500 meters below sea level to explore the lowest valleys, and up to 9,000 meters to ascend the world’s tallest peaks.

Recreational Scuba Diving and Freediving

Apple Watch Ultra is perfect for water sports, including extreme activities like kitesurfing and wakeboarding, along with recreational scuba diving to 40 meters — and now freediving — with the updated Oceanic+ app from Huish Outdoors.1

The built-in Depth app now saves a log of each session so users can review the most recent sessions on Apple Watch Ultra or view the complete history of all dives with a GPS entry point in the Fitness app on iPhone.

During a freedive with the Oceanic+ app, users will see critical data like depth and elapsed time, and receive target depth alerts, all in big, bold, glanceable text. Between dives, heart rate zones help users monitor and lower their heart rate, and preset alarms like surface time and elapsed session time guide users through each training session. The detailed logbook provides a full profile, including descent and ascent speeds.

On-Device Siri with Ability to Access and Log Health Data

For the first time on Apple Watch, Siri requests can be processed on device. For requests that do not require information from the internet, like starting a workout or setting a timer, Siri does not rely on Wi-Fi or cellular networks, resulting in quicker and more reliable responses. The powerful Neural Engine also makes dictation up to 25 percent more accurate.

On-device processing is private and secure, and now Siri can be used to access data from the Health app for health- and fitness-related queries. For example, a user can ask how many hours of sleep they had the previous night, for progress on closing their Activity rings, to start an outdoor run or cycling workout, or make requests like setting a waypoint with just their voice, even with no connectivity. Users can also make Siri requests on Apple Watch Ultra 2 to log health data such as their weight, body temperature, period, or medications taken.2

Precision Finding

The ability to use Apple Watch to find iPhone is a favorite user feature. Now, the S9 SiP includes a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip to enable Precision Finding for the iPhone 15 family, which has the same chip. Precision Finding provides distance and direction, as well as visual, haptic, and audio guidance to a misplaced iPhone, even if it’s in a different room or a user doesn’t remember where it’s been stowed after a dive, for example.

Featuring watchOS 10

Apple Watch Ultra 2 runs watchOS 10, a milestone update that includes:

  • A fresh approach to quickly view information with redesigned apps and a new Smart Stack to show relevant widgets right when they’re needed.
  • Delightful new watch faces in addition to the new Modular Ultra face: Snoopy, Palette, Solar Analog, and Nike Globe.
  • Night Mode now uses the ambient light sensor to automatically activate in the dark.
  • Bluetooth connectivity for power meters, speed sensors, and cadence sensors arrives for cyclists, unlocking new metrics and Workout Views, and cycling workouts. Power Zones help users get the most out of training.
  • Cycling workouts can automatically show up as a Live Activity on iPhone and can utilize the full screen when tapped.
  • The updated Compass app displays current elevation in real time and includes a 3D view of waypoints showing relative elevation.
  • New topographic maps in the Maps app show important details like points of interest and trailheads, and provide helpful details such as hill shading, contour lines, elevation, and cellular and Emergency SOS waypoints.
  • Additional tools to support mental health with state of mind logging in the Mindfulness app.
  • The ability to measure time spent in daylight using the ambient light sensor to help reduce the risk of myopia.

Carbon Neutral Models

Select case and band combinations of Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch SE, and the new Apple Watch Series 9 are Apple’s first-ever carbon neutral products. As part of Apple 2030, the carbon footprint of Apple Watch Ultra 2 has been significantly decreased. Emissions were reduced from the three biggest sources of greenhouse gases — materials, electricity, and transportation. The small amount of emissions remaining are offset with high-quality carbon credits from nature-based projects. Apple Watch Ultra 2 paired with an Alpine Loop or Trail Loop features 95 percent recycled titanium, compared with no recycled titanium in the first Apple Watch Ultra.3 A new logo on Apple Watch Ultra 2 packaging indicates models that are carbon neutral.

Powerful New S9 SiP

Apple Watch Series 9 is powered by custom Apple silicon in the all-new S9 SiP. Apple’s most powerful watch chip yet delivers systemwide improvements and brand-new features, including a new double tap gesture and on-device Siri with the ability to access and log health data privately and securely. Apple Watch Series 9 also has a new 4-core Neural Engine that can process machine learning tasks up to twice as fast, when compared with Apple Watch Series 8. The power efficiency of the S9 SiP allows Apple Watch Series 9 to maintain all-day 18-hour battery life.1

Double Tap Gesture

Innovations such as the Digital Crown and Taptic Engine — along with gestures like tap, swipe, wrist raise, and cover to mute — make Apple Watch simple and intuitive to use. With a new double tap gesture, users can easily control Apple Watch Series 9 using just one hand and without touching the display. Users can tap the index finger and thumb of their watch hand together twice to quickly and conveniently perform many of the most common actions on Apple Watch Series 9.

Double tap controls the primary button in an app so it can be used to stop a timer, play and pause music, or snooze an alarm. The gesture can be used to answer and end a phone call, and even to take a photo with the Camera Remote on Apple Watch. Double tap will also open the Smart Stack from the watch face, and another double tap will scroll through widgets in the stack.

This new double tap gesture is enabled by the faster Neural Engine in Apple Watch Series 9, which processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor with a new machine learning algorithm. The algorithm detects the unique signature of tiny wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap. The double tap gesture will be available in a software update next month.

Brighter Display

The power-efficient S9 SiP and advanced display architecture increase the maximum brightness of the Apple Watch Series 9 display up to 2000 nits — double that of Series 8 — making it even easier to read text in bright sunlight. For dark rooms or early mornings, the display can also lower to just one nit so as not to disturb people close by.

On-Device Siri with Ability to Access and Log Health Data

For the first time on Apple Watch, Siri requests can be processed on device. For requests that do not require information from the internet, such as starting a workout or setting a timer, Siri does not rely on Wi-Fi or cellular networks, resulting in quicker and more reliable responses. The powerful Neural Engine also makes dictation up to 25 percent more accurate than Apple Watch Series 8.

On-device processing is private and secure, and now Siri can be used to access data from the Health app for health- and fitness-related queries. For example, a user can ask how many hours of sleep they had the previous night, for progress on closing their Activity rings, or about their blood glucose level if they have a connected monitor. Users can also make Siri requests on Apple Watch Series 9 to log health data such as their weight, period, or medications taken.2

Precision Finding and HomePod Integration

The ability to use Apple Watch to find iPhone is a favorite user feature. Now, the S9 SiP includes a second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip to enable Precision Finding for the iPhone 15 family, which has the same chip. Precision Finding provides distance and direction, as well as visual, haptic, and audio guidance to a misplaced iPhone, even if it is in a different room.

UWB also brings deeper integration between Apple Watch and HomePod. When an Apple Watch user gets within 4 meters of a HomePod playing audio, Apple Watch Series 9 will launch Now Playing to control the media. Or if nothing is playing on HomePod, media suggestions will appear at the top of the Smart Stack.

  • The ability to measure time spent in daylight using the ambient light sensor to help reduce the risk of myopia and provide additional benefits to physical and mental health for all ages.

Carbon Neutral Models

Select case and band combinations of Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch SE are Apple’s first-ever carbon neutral products. As part of Apple 2030, the carbon footprint of Apple Watch has been significantly decreased. Emissions were reduced from the three biggest sources of greenhouse gases — materials, electricity, and transportation. The small amount of emissions remaining are offset with high-quality carbon credits from nature-based projects. Apple Watch packaging has been redesigned to be 100 percent fiber-based, and a new logo on the packaging indicates models that are carbon neutral.

Apple Watch SE

Apple Watch SE continues to deliver the core Apple Watch experience at a more affordable price point, and is a great way for users to start their Apple Watch journey, use with Family Setup, or gift to their loved ones. Additionally, Apple Watch SE offers Activity tracking, high and low heart rate notifications, Fall Detection, Emergency SOS, Crash Detection, and watchOS 10.

Lineup

  • Apple Watch Series 9 is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes in starlight, midnight, silver, (PRODUCT)RED, and a new pink aluminum case, as well as stainless steel in gold, silver, and graphite cases.
  • Any aluminum Apple Watch Series 9 with a new Sport Loop band is carbon neutral.
  • Apple Watch SE is available in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, and is carbon neutral when paired with a new Sport Loop band.
  • Apple Watch Hermès is available in stainless steel in silver and space black.

Bands

Apple is introducing FineWoven, a luxurious and durable microtwill made of 68 percent post-consumer recycled content that has significantly lower carbon emissions compared to leather. FineWoven has a suedelike feel, and is available with the Magnetic Link and Modern Buckle bands. Starting today, Apple will no longer use leather in any new Apple product, including watch bands.

The popular Sport Loop band has been redesigned to include 82 percent recycled yarn. All new Apple Watch Sport Loops are carbon neutral.

Apple worked with Nike and Hermès on more environmentally friendly band collections. The Nike Sport Band now contains 32 percent or more recycled fluoroelastomer, including colorful flakes made from excess bands that create a randomized pattern, making each band unique, while the Nike Sport Loop with a space-dye pattern repurposes yarn from previous seasons.

A new collection of Hermès bands draws on the house’s rich history in textiles and craftsmanship. Two new woven bands are introduced: Toile H is an interpretation of the brand’s signature checked canvas, and Twill Jump is a rich solid color with contrasting details. The first-ever knitted band for Apple Watch, Bridon, is hand-braided with a bold chevron pattern, while Kilim is made of sporty, waterproof molded rubber and has a deployment buckle. A classic new watch face, Hermès Radial, complements these four new band styles.3

Apple unveils its first carbon neutral products https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-its-first-carbon-neutral-products/ https://macsources.com/apple-unveils-its-first-carbon-neutral-products/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2023 18:52:02 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116735 The new Apple Watch lineup marks major progress toward ambitious Apple 2030 climate goal

Apple today announced its first-ever carbon neutral products in the all-new Apple Watch lineup. Innovations in design and clean energy have driven dramatic reductions in product emissions of over 75 percent for each carbon neutral Apple Watch.1 This milestone marks a major step in the company’s journey toward its ambitious Apple 2030 goal to make every product carbon neutral by the end of the decade, including the entire global supply chain and the lifetime use of every device Apple makes.

As part of Apple 2030 and the company’s broader environmental efforts, Apple has also ended the use of leather across all of its product lines, announced its first entirely fiber-based packaging for the new Apple Watch lineup,2 and continued to expand the use of recycled materials in iPhone. The company also introduced a new tool in the Home app called Grid Forecast,3 which helps inform users when their power grid has cleaner energy available, so they can decide when to use electricity.

“At Apple, we have a longstanding and proven commitment to leading the fight against climate change. Our focus on renewable energy and low-carbon design has already driven industry-leading emissions reductions, and we’re not slowing down,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “We’ve achieved an important milestone in making the world’s most popular watch carbon neutral — and we will keep innovating to meet the urgency of the moment.”

Every Product Carbon Neutral by 2030

Apple has adopted a clear and rigorous approach to product decarbonization that prioritizes reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the three biggest sources across the product life cycle: electricity, materials, and transportation. Only after Apple steeply cuts product emissions, will the company apply high-quality carbon credits from nature-based projects for emissions that cannot yet be avoided or reduced with existing solutions.

Each carbon neutral Apple Watch model meets the following strict criteria: 100 percent clean electricity for manufacturing and product use, 30 percent recycled or renewable material by weight, and 50 percent of shipping without the use of air transportation.4 These combined efforts result in at least a 75 percent reduction in product emissions for each model. The company will use high-quality carbon credits to address the small amount of remaining emissions, resulting in a carbon neutral product footprint. Every carbon neutral Apple Watch — which includes any aluminum Series 9 and SE models when paired with a new Sport Loop, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 when paired with a new Trail Loop or Alpine Loop — is certified by SCS Global Services, a leader in environmental standards and certification.

The Path to 2030

Apple’s first carbon neutral products are the result of years of significant work and innovation across the company and its global supply chain. They also represent the latest step on a journey that began over a decade ago.

In 2020, Apple achieved carbon neutrality for its global corporate operations and announced Apple 2030: a bold strategy to be carbon neutral across its entire value chain by 2030. Apple’s plan centers on an aggressive 75 percent reduction in overall carbon emissions from 2015 levels. By avoiding activities that generate carbon, significantly expanding renewable energy across the company’s corporate operations and supply chain, and designing with recycled and renewable materials, Apple has so far reduced total emissions by over 45 percent since 2015, while still growing revenue by over 65 percent in the same period.

As Apple accelerates efforts to decarbonize its value chain, every product represents an opportunity to reduce emissions — from the electricity used for manufacturing and charging devices, to materials and shipping.

Spurring Progress in Clean Electricity

All manufacturing for the carbon neutral Apple Watch models is powered by 100 percent clean electricity through investments and sourcing by Apple and its suppliers. Additionally, every supplier that manufactures parts and components for these models has committed to 100 percent renewable electricity for all of their Apple production by the end of the decade. Apple also works with manufacturing partners around the world to advocate for policies that support wider deployment of clean energy solutions.

Apple began building and investing in large-scale solar and wind farms to power its data centers and offices over a decade ago. In 2015, the company started working with its manufacturing partners to help them create and invest in their own solar and wind projects, and source renewable energy for all Apple production. Since 2018, all of Apple’s corporate offices, data centers, and retail stores worldwide have been powered by renewable electricity.

Thanks to these combined efforts, Apple and its global suppliers support more than 15 gigawatts of clean energy around the world today — enough to power over 5 million American homes. Across all product lines, more than 300 global suppliers — representing over 90 percent of Apple’s direct manufacturing spend — have now joined Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program, committing to 100 percent renewable electricity for all Apple production by the end of this decade.

Electricity for manufacturing and charging devices represents the largest source of Apple’s emissions across all product lines. To address the latter, Apple has committed to invest in large-scale solar and wind projects around the world. For the carbon neutral Apple Watch models, the company will match 100 percent of customers’ expected electricity use for charging.

Innovating in Low-Carbon Design

Apple has pioneered the use of many key recycled materials in its products through world-class product engineering, extensive design qualification, and supply chain expertise. The new products announced today build on these achievements.

To further reduce impact on the planet, Apple is ending the use of leather across all of its product lines, including iPhone accessories and Apple Watch bands. The company will replace leather with a new textile called FineWoven, an elegant and durable twill made from 68 percent post-consumer recycled content. FineWoven offers a subtle luster and a soft, suedelike feel, and is available on iPhone MagSafe cases and wallets as well as the Magnetic Link and Modern Buckle Apple Watch bands.

As recycled and renewable materials often have a lower carbon footprint than primary materials, Apple’s industry-leading progress in the use of recycled content also advances the company’s Apple 2030 goal. The new FineWoven material has significantly lower emissions compared to the more carbon-intensive leather, and both the new iPhone 15 and the Apple Watch lineups advance progress toward the company’s 2025 targets for the use of 100 percent recycled metals in key components. This includes 100 percent recycled rare earth magnets and the company’s first use of 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery of iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.5 Additionally, the popular Sport Loop has been redesigned with 82 percent recycled yarn, which includes material from discarded fishing nets. Customers looking to upgrade to the new carbon neutral Apple Watch models can take advantage of Apple Trade In, and Apple will refurbish the device for a new owner, or recycle it for free.

Apple is also accelerating progress toward plastic-free packaging by 2025. In addition to achieving the first 100 percent fiber-based packaging for the new Apple Watch and band lineup, the packaging for every iPhone 15 model is over 99 percent fiber-based.

Reducing Transportation Emissions

Transporting products around the world makes up about 9 percent of Apple’s comprehensive carbon footprint. The company is shifting more product volume to shipping modes that are less carbon-intensive than air transport, such as ocean or rail. Apple’s carbon footprint methodology shows that shipping the same product by ocean emits 95 percent fewer emissions than by air.

For the carbon neutral Apple Watch models, including watches and bands, the company will ship at least 50 percent of the combined weight using non-air modes, cutting total transportation emissions nearly in half. Additionally, the packaging of all Apple Watch Series 9 and SE models has been redesigned for compactness, with a new, smaller shape that allows for 25 percent more devices per shipment.

At the same time, Apple is committed to supporting broader efforts to decarbonize shipping industries, such as by being a member of the First Movers Coalition, and by supporting analysis to identify pathways for developing sustainable aviation fuels. The company also seeks out technical innovations — including the use of alternative fuels and electric vehicles — and selects vendors that offer low-carbon options to help further drive decarbonization in the industry.

Investing in High-Quality Carbon Removal

After achieving steep reductions in product emissions, Apple plans to cover residual emissions with high-quality carbon credits primarily from nature-based projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere, like restoring grasslands, wetlands, and forests. Carbon removal is critical to addressing climate change and achieving global climate goals, as leading scientific bodies like the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have emphasized.

Apple defines high-quality credits as those from projects that are real, additional, measurable, and quantified, with systems in place to avoid double-counting, and that ensure permanence. Apple has helped advance natural carbon-removal solutions that meet this definition by creating the innovative Restore Fund, which currently supports projects in Latin America. The company uses credits from projects that are certified to international standards such as Verra; the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards; and the Forest Stewardship Council.

For the carbon neutral Apple Watch models, the high-quality carbon credits used to compensate for the remaining emissions will come from projects like the Restore Fund’s investments with Arbaro Advisors and BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group, which are helping to restore and protect high-quality working forests and native ecosystems in Paraguay and Brazil.

Introducing Grid Forecast

As Apple decarbonizes its value chain, the company is also committed to engaging with customers and creating technology that helps them understand and address their environmental impact.

Grid Forecast is a new tool in the Home app on Apple devices that shows when a user’s electrical grid has relatively cleaner or less clean energy sources available. For example, there are times when wind and solar projects produce more energy than the grid can use, leading to some of it being wasted. There are also times when electricity is being generated with lower emissions. By using electricity during these cleaner times, customers may lower the climate impact of the electricity they use at home.

Apple uses data that combines grid, emissions, and weather information into one, easy-to-follow signal. This can help people make decisions about the best time to run large appliances and charge electric vehicles or devices throughout the day. In the contiguous United States, Grid Forecast is available in the Home app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, and can be added as an iOS widget or a watch face complication. As additional data becomes available through ongoing industry collaboration, Apple will continue refining Grid Forecast to maximize impact.

Beyond its 2030 goal, Apple is also working toward a 90 percent reduction in emissions by 2050 — which requires advocating for collective action from governments, businesses, and individuals to accelerate global progress in the fight against climate change.

About Apple

Apple revolutionized personal technology with the introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Today, Apple leads the world in innovation with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. Apple’s five software platforms — iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS — provide seamless experiences across all Apple devices and empower people with breakthrough services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay, and iCloud. Apple’s more than 100,000 employees are dedicated to making the best products on earth, and to leaving the world better than we found it.

  1. Carbon reductions are calculated against a baseline scenario: No use of clean electricity for manufacturing or product use, beyond what is already available on the grid; Apple’s carbon intensity of key materials as of 2015; and Apple’s average mix of transportation modes by product line across three years.
  2. The breakdown of U.S. retail packaging is by weight. Adhesives, inks, and coatings are excluded from calculations of plastic content and packaging weight.
  3. Grid Forecast will be available in the contiguous United States.
  4. 50 percent or more of all carbon neutral products by total weight are planned, as of product launch, to be shipped using non-air modes of transportation — like ocean freight — from the factory to their next destination over the lifetime of the products.
  5. All cobalt content claims are based on a mass balance allocation.

Apple introduces new AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with USB‐C charging capabilities https://macsources.com/apple-airpods-pro-2nd-generation-update/ https://macsources.com/apple-airpods-pro-2nd-generation-update/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2023 18:45:25 +0000 https://macsources.com/?p=116730 iOS 17 brings new audio experiences to all AirPods Pro (2nd generation)

Apple today announced AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging (USB‑C), making the world’s most popular headphones even better. AirPods Pro (2nd generation) continue to revolutionize personal audio by delivering incredible sound quality, up to double the Active Noise Cancellation of their predecessor, an advanced Transparency mode, a more immersive Spatial Audio experience, and an expanded range of ear tip sizes for an even better fit. AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are upgraded with USB‑C charging capabilities, additional dust resistance, and Lossless Audio with Apple Vision Pro. With iOS 17, all AirPods Pro (2nd generation) level up with access to new audio experiences like Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness.1

AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB‐C) will be available to order starting today, with availability in stores beginning Friday, September 22.

Added Convenience and Durability

The new AirPods Pro are updated with a USB‐C connector, so it’s easy to use a single cable to charge Mac, iPad, AirPods, and the iPhone 15 lineup. Users can even charge AirPods directly with iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which also come with a USB‐C connector.

An improved IP54 rating for the earbuds and case also offers additional dust resistance, so users can bring them on their favorite rugged adventures.

Introducing Lossless Audio with Apple Vision Pro

AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) will enable Lossless Audio with ultra-low latency to deliver the perfect true wireless solution with Apple Vision Pro.2 The H2 chip in the latest AirPods Pro and Apple Vision Pro, combined with a groundbreaking wireless audio protocol, unlocks powerful 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless Audio with a massive reduction in audio latency.

When Apple Vision Pro is available early next year in the U.S., customers will be able to enjoy the most advanced wireless audio experience in the industry with the new AirPods Pro for exceptional entertainment, gaming, FaceTime calls, and so much more.

New Features with iOS 17

All AirPods Pro (2nd generation) gain exciting features and capabilities with iOS 17, including:1

  • Adaptive Audio: This new listening mode dynamically blends Transparency mode and Active Noise Cancellation, adjusting the noise control based on the sound in a user’s environment. The breakthrough experience, unlocked by advanced computational audio, allows users to stay aware of their surroundings, while distracting noises — like group chitchat at the office, a vacuum at home, or the din of a local coffee shop — are reduced.
  • Conversation Awareness: When a user begins speaking to someone nearby — whether they’re having a quick conversation with a colleague or ordering lunch at a cafe — Conversation Awareness helps to lower the content volume, enhance the voices in front of the user, and reduce background noise.
  • Personalized Volume: Using machine learning to understand environmental conditions and volume selections, Personalized Volume automatically fine-tunes the listening experience for users based on their preferences over time.

Better for the Environment

The new AirPods Pro are designed with numerous materials and features to minimize their impact on the environment, including the use of 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets and 100 percent recycled gold in the plating of multiple printed circuit boards. The case also uses 100 percent recycled tin in the solder of the main logic board and 100 percent recycled aluminum in the hinge. AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are free of potentially harmful substances such as mercury, BFRs, PVC, and beryllium. Redesigned packaging eliminates the outer plastic wrap, and 90 percent or more of the packaging is made using fiber-based materials, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from all packaging by 2025.

Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to be 100 percent carbon neutral across its entire manufacturing supply chain and all product life cycles. This means that every Apple device sold, from component manufacturing, assembly, transport, customer use, charging, all the way through recycling and material recovery, will have net-zero climate impact.
