A workspace accessory worth the investment.
For a few years now I’ve been trying to make my workspace the ‘ultimate’ set-up. It’s been tricky because I’ve been trying to make a space in my house work in a way that it wasn’t designed for. I finally got the room set as a computer workspace, photography set-up, and gaming/relaxation area. It’s as close to perfect as it can be and now I’ve just been tweaking my computer set-up with different types of desk accessories. One of those accessories is a laptop holder from AVLT Technology, Inc.
DETAILS
The AVLT VESA Laptop Holder is designed to work with 75×75 and 100×100 VESA mounts. The laptop holder can attach to desktop or wall mounts, but a mount is not included with the holder. The holder can support up to 8.8 pounds and is designed to work with 11-17 inch laptops. The concept of this style of holder is to provide laptop users with an option for dual-display workspaces when using an external monitor. The AVLT laptop holder comes with an adjustable Velcro strap and corner stopper to secure laptops when they are resting on the holder.

USER EXPERIENCE
The Laptop Holder come in a simple cardboard box. There is a label on the front that describes the product and shows it in use. Inside the box, you will find the main part of the holder pre-assembled and then a few baggies that contain the additional parts that must be attached to the body of the holder in order for it to work properly. The assembly/installation instructions are provided as illustrations that are somewhat easy to follow. Truthfully, the only issue I ended up having was determining which screw was which. In the packaging, all the screws are grouped together in one baggie. I think it would be have been better to separate them into two different baggies that were labeled appropriately. The instructions call out the different types of screws as “D” and “E” but they aren’t labeled physically.
Another oddity was that only two pads were included for the corner stoppers. They are designed to lay on the part of the corner stopper that sits at the base of the laptop — the place where the most weight is centered. I would have felt a little more secure for my laptop if there had been more than two pads included for the corner stopper. The assembly of the Laptop Holder is not difficult. As I mentioned, the hardest part of the assembly is figuring out which screw is which. There are essentially two parts to the installation. First, you want to connect the corner stoppers to the body using the provided screws. Once that is completed, you will use the machine screws to connect the laptop holder to the VESA mount on your monitor arm or wall mount. In my case, I was using a monitor arm. When you get to this step you will notice how the laptop holder does not fit flat against the VESA mount. It’s designed to hold your laptop at an angle. After the holder is attached to the mount, you will want to attach the security strap and then you can slide your laptop into the holder.
Once I got the laptop onto the holder, I was impressed by how easy it was to move the legs of the assembly to fit the size of the laptop. I have a 15-inch laptop and there were no problems with the fit of the laptop holder. The build quality of the laptop holder was impressive as well. The plastic parts that are included are heavy-weight plastic and very sturdy. The majority of the holder’s body is made from metal. The only issue I really had with this Laptop Holder was how the VESA mount on the monitor arm was drooping. That, of course, isn’t the fault of the Laptop Holder — it’s a problem with the monitor arm itself.
CONCLUSION
The AVLT Laptop Holder is a really nice investment for creating unique, well-organized workspaces. I thought the combination of the build-quality, design, and easy installation process made for a very nice product and one that I would recommend to others. There are a few adjustments I would make to the overall design, but it’s a sturdy holder that will get the job done.
